If The Debate Cameras Turn On Tomorrow And McCain Isn't There, What Political Price Would He Pay?
If they turn on the cameras tomorrow and senator McCain isn't there I think his race for president would be over. I think it would look so ridiculous and silly that he would drop 5-10 points in the polls.

Imagine if they went ahead with the debate and it was just Obama answering questions. 90 minutes all to himself laying out his goals for our nation. You can't buy that kind of exposure. He would look presidential as hell, and McCain would be M.I.A. and look like a creep, or something. How weird would McCain look if he wasn't there?

I want to watch a debate tomorrow night, but part of me would love for McCain to not show up. It would just be hilarious and I think his campaign would pretty much be finished.

4. but I think the problem is.....
.... if he doesn't show up (but at this point I think he will) then there wont be wall to wall coverage of it. The networks aren't gonna give Obama an hour and a half of unrivaled coverage.

So it would become a non event essentially.

Can you imagine the sight of Obama there reasuring America with McCain nowhere in sight? McCain wouldn't dare let it happen, it would ruin him.

16. OTOH, imagine McCain calls a press conference to discuss the "crisis" at the same
time as the debate.

8. Ok, here's a question, would there be an empty stand?
Like Obama on the left with an empty speaking stand on the right.

20. No.
Not until these parties do the hard work of establishing meaningful party organizations in all states. I'm always amazed that these parties don'tt want to build a party from the ground up - they want to show up once every four years and try to win elections from the top down. Why don't they do something impressive and start by getting elected to city and state offices first?

21. Absolutely NOT.....
You have to have at least 5% support (most would say 10) to stand on a Presidential debate stage.

13. All I know is if McCain doesn't show up
He will somehow work overtime on mentioning that he was a POW, and he will tie into the debates somehow.

When I was a POW, I would have loved to have had debates with my fellow POWs, but as POWs, we were held in separate POW cells for being POWs. (5 second pause) POW.

17. My friends, there was a long time when I couldn't have debates.
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 07:28 PM by malik flavors
I didn't have a lot of houses and I couldn't have debates.

I was at the Hanoi Hilton, my friends.

15. I loved Obama's initial response to McCain trying to duck the debate, but ...
now I think he's stepped into McCain's tar-baby and he's going to have a difficult time getting out. McCain came into a situation that was all but resolved before he even arrived and looked like the dolt he is. However, now he's managed to throw a monkey wrench into the thing, which artificially inflates the crisis. Since Obama is now there, McCain can make it look like it's Obama who's ducking his duty if he leaves for Mississippi tomorrow. Sigh...

18. Does all of this remind you of a Roadrunner cartoon?
Here's McCain (Wiley Coyote) plotting to kill and eat the roadrunner. And roadrunner just outsmarts him every time. Wiley never learns!
