Anyone who is seriously against all forms of a bailout should read and reread that article.

1. Anyone who believes the NYT should read what they wrote before the Iraq War.

I don't always denigrate the NY Times, but citing them as authority for the bailout is specious.

This is no worse than 1987, and we will live through it.

2. Maybe, maybe not.
One thing I do know is that the Times has blown its credibility over these dark years on many topics, along with CNN, NBC, the Washington Post, NPR, etc. Any and all of them could be correct on this, but they might carry a little more weight if they hadn't spent years and years engaging in bullshit, spin and propaganda.

because I'm actually for some form of Bailout as presented by either Obama, Sanders or Reich. I also love the creative solutions of people who are suggesting a tax rebate anywhere from $5,000 to $6,500. My last rebate is in savings, because I'm looking to buy a house. $5,000 would be enough of a 3% down payment towards an FHA loan to get me there. To hell with me. I think it would also benefit a lot of other Americans. They would likely invest this money in land or property at this point.

4. Honestly, I'm willing to pay $3000 for greater regulation, oversight and a cap to CEO pay.
I see it as an investment in my future.

10. I was just saying that to my husband -- I'd pay money in to get this handled
But then we love our country. Bush/McCain only love our country's money -- all of it that they poured into offshore accounts.

6. No, you're sensible
Something must be done. It is unfortunate, but true.

The others are suffering from False Alarm fatigue. Needless to say, the one time you don't heed the malfunctioning fire alarm is the day there's a real fire. This is a real fire.

5. Unfortunately, we're in the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf stage here
Half DUers will "remind" you the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, in the same way half the townspeople in the story will remind you of all the other times the little boy cried wolf. This is the culmination of the severe damage that the Bush/Cheney/Rove program has done to America, and it will be damage that will last for a generation, especially if some form of bailout isn't passed.

People don't believe the urgency.

Of course, the story ends by there REALLY being a wolf. This time, there really is a wolf, and half the DUers currently inveighing against the little boy crying wolf yet again will be begging for government assistance inside of two years if something doesn't pass. It's unfortunate, but a cold, cold reality. The wolf is well and truly at the door, and it doesn't matter if the boyt called wolf falsely a thousand times. It is a wolf this time.

7. Yes, but.
IT's still a political football. It will hurt, and it will cost more if we postpone it, but I think the right thing to do is bluff them for another week. We (Dems) do not want to 'own' this giveaway going into the election. A full bipartisan bill or nothing. As long as the GOP is saying no, then we call their bluff.

I hate to say this because it's cruel, but in the long term it's better if we hold it up for another week or even a month until the Wall Street types are publicly begging for it and will agree to any condition. If we do it now we lose.
