Healer in Chief
There are two ways that today can go.

1. The framework of a deal is presented this afternoon, in time for McCain to go to the debate, and the debate occurs. Crisis is averted. Stocks tank early, but recover strong at the end of the day.

or

2. House Republicans hold strong. McCain doesn't commit. No deal. Stock market craters. Obama shows up in Mississippi by himself.

This post will focus on what a great opportunity #2 will be for Obama, even as it is a disaster for Americans.

Think Rudy Giuliani during 9/11 and in the immediate aftermath.

Yes... I know what we all think about Giuliani now. But in the 72 hours after 9/11, he really was "America's Mayor".

Obama should take the microphone at Oxford Mississippi and talk directly to the people. "I know you all took a major financial hit today.... I know you're panicked and hurting.... but Joe Biden and I can fix it. We will fix it..... Americans are resilient people. We'll recover from this..... It's unfortunate my opponent would rather save his campaign than save this nation.... this occured because of a lack of leadership. Joe Biden and I will make sure this never happens again."

It will be Obama's "bullhorn on the wreckage" moment.

"While McCain is playing politics with your life savings, your homes, your jobs, leading you into a great Depression that is of HIS OWN making - as a deregulator that allowed this to happen - I'm here to work for you."

If scenario #2 happens.... today will affect more people than 9/11. If you don't get that yet, you're going to be sorry tomorrow.

By Wednesday of next week, you'll all realize that the doomsayers weren't kidding around.....

You better hope for scenario #1.... but #2 has an opportunity for Obama.

1. Chuck Todd just said that if it's only Obama, no one will televise it.
WTF?

3. Wow, now we know who the media really is in the tank for. Why should McCain
go if this is the scenario.

2. Excellent summation one with which I concur except you can add to #1
that McCain will spin this into a win for him

5. In scenario #1... The pain has been averted, no need for "healing".... Frank and Dodd are heroes
