Girgen on Larry king now. Said he thought the venom in Zell's
speech is absolutely contrary to what GWB tried to promote "Uniter not a divider". He thinks it will hurt bad!

1. Wow, I just watched some replays
I was out earlier.

That man is a rabid nut. He is no credit to any party.

The man is a reprehensible piece of shit and as far I'm concerned he can crawl into that spider hole he talked about and never come out again.

2. I have to wonder how it will play with people too.
He looked angry and mean. I thought he made some good points about Kerry's voting record, but maybe what made more of an impression, more of a lasting impression will be his angry style - that can be a big turn off. Still, Kerry's going to have to rebut the charges against his voting record; both Zell and Cheney made him look weak on defense.

4. The list of weapons systems that Kerry voted against:
...planes, missiles, tanks, etc... The response is that these were part of larger appropriations bills. But thats how Kerry's going to have to rebut the charges. Even better, he's gong to have to convince voters he'll strengthen the military. He'll need to do that in commercials and in speeches, but especially during the debates. The voters don't want the kind of democrat, during this period in the nations history, thats going to cut the defense budget.

He made a pretty good speech today to the American Legion that he's going to add troops and make sure the military is strong. Not many people saw that though, compared to the Miller and Cheney speeches. He's going to have to remedy that. Voters need to be convinced that he's going to be tough on terrorism and be pro-military.

5. Those were the same defense systems Cheney cut. They are lying and some
people are susceptible to lies.

Tough on terrorism? Do you realize that Kerry was the first lawmaker in the country to investigate and shutdown terrorists' banks? He was working to uncover the criminal financial networks of the terrorists while the Bush1 administration was working to stop Kerry.

Kerry was working to shut down the terrorists banks while Bush2 was making deals with the dirty financiers.

Ever hear of BCCI and IranContra?

6. He also said the Patriots worked in the first Gulf War.
We know now that they had a 0% success rate.

10. "They are lying and people are susceptible to lies"
I'm glad you agree with me. The charges made by Miller and Cheney need to be rebutted with just the kind of information you mentioned: Cheney voted to cut some of the same weapons systems. But I think he must go beyond that to making sure people realize that he will spend on defense and modernize the military; don't just play defense.

Yes, I'm aware of BCCI. Why do you ask though? Because I'm sure you think most people aren't, and they should be. People need to be made aware of that as well.

No, Ive never heard of IranContra, duh. lol

The speeches tonight were effective for an audience of Americans that don't know better. Kerry needs to make sure he hits back, something I don't think his campaign has been very good at doing so far.

9. And do you realize that Mr. Miller himself praised Mr. Kerry
for working to build our military?

"My job tonight is an easy one: to present to you one of this nation's authentic heroes, one of this party's best-known and greatest leaders – and a good friend.

"... John has worked to strengthen our military, reform public education, boost the economy and protect the environment."

Which truth is true for Zig-Zag Zell?

7. because you dont have the facts and i didnt even watch or listen to
miller. not watching this stuff. staying up on it reading hte board. muchof the record he was trashing has already been debunked. from what i am hearing it is the same shit from an ad about kerry's vote on militay. many many many of those things were from one piece of legislation introduced in 91 by cheney when he was sec of def? and went to senate floor and asked them to make budget cuts. economy was bad for bush, re election and bush needed to cut the military.

as i said all this is guessing this is what was brought up, i didnt watch

12. Gergen's a good guy
He was aghast and disgusted, and it was the most emotional I've ever seen him; his composure is usually flawless. He reminded us that Zell served his apprenticeship under the legendary Lester Maddox, and had returned to the language of hate.

This needs to be rammed down the Republican Party's throat word for word and have it either repudiated or reinforced. The snivelling about his words being his own should be immediately quashed: they either knew exactly what he was saying or should have; to say that they were unaware is simply ridiculous.

David Gergen is an honorable man, and it's hard to see him have to endure this in public.
