Forget the middle, increase the rightwingnut turnout instead.
I just received this is an e-mail from someone I consider a serious political wonk. I think this could be the Rove rationale for this convention ugliness...
From Alan, the wonk:
"I think the Bush 2004 strategy is now clear. Apparently there is a Wall Street Journal poll out that shows that 70 percent of the undecided voters think the country is on the wrong track. They have given up on gaining any substantial portion of undecided voters and have decided that there only hope is to increase the turnout of their base. Tonight was a very ugly night, very reminiscent of the 1992 Houston convention in which Buchanan called for a cultural war. This of course is the exact opposite of what they did in 2000 when Bush and Cheney promised to "change the tone" of washington. It will be interesting how much of a backlash there will be."
Someone said that the Republicans feel that they won't get ANY swing voters or independents. They want to try to get more of their base out to vote and to possibly scare any independents from voting for Kerry. They are hoping that independents will just stay home.
5. people were saying out of blue yest middle of road was going
to bush, regardless of evidence always in the past that not being true. people really really tried hard for us to believe. are you saying that was all a smoke screen. surely people arent playing games
I'm convinced they pulled out Alan Keyes not because they actually think he has a chance in hell against Obama, but because he'll bring out the far right which will vote for Bush while they're voting for Keyes.
Clearly they don't give a shit about the middle at this point - just their insane base.
