Statement from John Edwards on the Republican Convention

Philadelphia, PA - Senator John Edwards released the following statement tonight:

“There was a lot of hate coming from that podium tonight. What John Kerry and I offer to the American people is hope. Hope for more good paying jobs. Hope for better health care. And hope for our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“What the Bush administration just doesn’t get is that a stronger America begins at home. And John Kerry and I have the right plan to lead America in a new direction because we know that we can do better.”

1. I'd like to see more aggresiveness

JE is soft-peddling...but I think its a smart move...Let the Repukes completely implode and cash in on the fallout.

10. Right - there's still rope for them to take...
Not to mention that, by soft-peddling tonight, the Dems are drawing an even sharper contrast to the Republican hate fest. It would be stupid for the Dems to jump at the bait and respond in kind tonight.

2. That's good, but I still would like to see some fighting words!
Edwards probably can't do that like I'm used to hearing it anyway. It would be so out of charachter for him. But KEnnedy, Biden, Kuchinich etc. have to get out there and fight in the dirt with these slime.

12. They will - but there's no need to waste them tonight . . .
The press and pundits are trashing the Cheney and Miller just fine.

Keep our guys in the bullpen until the press dies down - THEN spring them to keep the message moving.

3. Unprecedented counter attack
strike two... the counter attack has started folks, it has started,

First Kerry's speech today, and now this from Edwards

He is not soft pedalling, he is going for the middle and apealing to them... he needs access to the Media though and I mean the teevee

4. I agree!
I can just imagine what Kerry/Edwards thought of zell & cheney's speech tonight!

And Dean, Clark, et al..what they thought, too!

They are all such thoughtful, intelligent men and to have all this hate spewed out like so many snakes in a vipor pit.

5. Sorry but whoopie shit. I love Edwards, but this is lame.
Where's the criticism of the exploitation about 911!? I can't believe that I'm watching the Dems lie down again. :(

I just hope like hell they know something I don't. Or, that they've got some REAL mojo coming up.

8. Wait for it. It's midnight. The venom will hit the morning news cycle.

The detailed responses will come in the morning.

Also, the response should be a contrast to the hatred and not an invitation for the press to report it as a mudfight which would not distinguish our campaign from the ugliness of the Bush assaults.

edit: And our candidates should keep their message focused on the needs and concerns of Americans as a contrast to the republicans who have to run from any substanitive discussion of issues which would only serve to reflect on the miserable failures of this administration.

9. C'Mon - you're expecting Edwards to deliver a knockout punch in a press
release commenting on the keynote and VP speeches on the third night of the Republican Convention?

Please.

Tomorrow night, for the first time in history, the Democratic nominees are holding a huge rally in a swing state right after Bush's speech. They are NOT lying down.

BE PATIENT!

13. I'll be patient, but if they don't go after Bush for his failure to
protect America on 911, I give up.
