I think the GOP has made another huge miscalculation with this convention.
Even my fervently pro-Bush sister is tired of hearing about 9/11 and terrorism.

I don't think 9/11 has the same kind of emotional impact as it did 2 years ago, or even last year. In part that's due to media overexposure, but it is also because Bush has talked about it so frequently for so long. It's like hearing the same sermon over and over.

Am I being cynical? Do you think that sense of fear and anger has faded enough that 9/11 itself is no longer a touchstone issue?

5. Right.
I guess they've decided that the only way to get their base to go to the polls is to make Kerry out to be the enemy of all good patriots.

I still think that they are making a mistake by linking their arguments to 9/11 sentimentality. Not only will people have to have strong feelings against John Kerry, they'll also have to still havev strong feelings about 9/11. I'm sure that will work on those who see Islam as the enemy, but not so sure about others.

2. They've beaten it into the ground. They're grasping at straws. They've
got nothing but fear and hate. They've accomplished nothing, and have taken the country in the wrong direction in every area you can think of.
They're dead in the water.

3. It shows just what a two-faced asshole Bush really is.
He said he wouldn't use 9/11 and he is; he says we're safer and he needs 700 security officers when he went to Europe; he's afraid to go out to the people; he coming into the convention in a bubble, for Christ's sake; and he hasn't done anything about securing our boarders because he wants the Latino vote so badly. Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth and your ass.

6. Yup. The Band-Aids, Zell Miller, The Bad Jokes...

I don't know if it's a total disaster, but it's only 2 days in-- and it's really starting to smell like feet.

7. Good point!
I wonder if anyone is tallying the number of times they've invoked "9/11" "terror" "war" in this campaign. That's all they've said! The hypocracy of saying Dems want to look at the past when all they can do is ring the 9/11 bell again and again and again is appalling.

Tomorrow, Bush will supposedly talked about his *cough* clear vision *cough cough cough* for the future. So...from 9/11! 9/11! 9/11! to 'as President I will' ...ummm did we suddenly lose 3 1/2 years somewhere???

9. Bush really didn't handle 9/11 all that well.
Just to mention a few bloopers, how about

Bush's panicked paralysis in the classroom in Florida.
the lack of coordinated reaction by the military, etc. to the 9/11 events as they unfolded,
Bush's jaunt around the country immediately following 9/11, which may have seemed like a good idea at the time . . . ,
the Bush administration lies about the safety of the air around the Twin Towers site,
the attempt to cover up the mistakes by not allowing a real investigation, and
the unwillingness of Bush and members of his administration to testify before the Commission.

I could go on and on. Does Bush think Americans can't remember this stuff? What is he bragging about. As for bringing the country together, didn't Richard Clarke state that he did no more than any president would have done? Sad thing is that, although he had a Republican Congress and a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, he has done nothing that he can point to with pride to the American people. What a waste of four years. Can't wait until Kerry is president.

11. Hopefully it is reminding people
that Bush has not accomplished a damn thing except increasing terrorism and causing the unnecessary deaths of thousands of innocent people.
