Libertarian Party calls * a "Political Welfare Queen"
"Shame on President Bush for forcing ordinary Americans to pay for this
weeklong infomercial masquerading as a political convention," said
Michael Dixon, national chair of the Libertarian Party. "We're
challenging the Bush-Cheney ticket to get off the welfare wagon, and
give the money back."

"Vice President Dick Cheney and dozens of Senators and Representatives
are millionaires many times over, thanks in part to their years of
government 'service,' " Dixon said. "It's both outrageous and arrogant
for these rich politicians to demand that ordinary Americans pay for a
convention whose only purpose is to get the Republican president re-
elected.

"The truth is that George Bush isn't really a compassionate
conservative; he just plays one on TV. In real life he's a political
welfare queen who's just shaken down taxpayers for $40 million.
"

Ahhhh...I love the Libertarian party sometimes...I have half of my heart with them, and half with the Dems.

I wish Kerry would come out and attack * like this. Lets hope he starts after Labor Day.

1. What's the story behind this? Why are we paying for this?
Or are we paying for both, and the Libertarians are just pissed they aren't on the dole too?

2. we are paying for both
the Libertarians want corporations or politicians themselves to pay for them, as they are already "week-long bribe-a-thons"...

I just hope the Libertarian party draws a significant ammount of votes from * this year. I think a lot of fiscally conservative republicans are mad.

3. Libertarians don't like tax money wasted at all... they get really
pissed about that. lol

Republicans paid mostly for the convention...BUT TAX PAYERS paid for the security!!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That came right outta the mouth of Ed Gillespi, on C-span a few days ago. No joke.

5. Completely agree. It's outrageous.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with the Libertarian Party, but the amount of money spent on security to keep the masses bundled safely away from the nation's rich, fat, republican elites is an outrage. This isn't standard presidential convention security. Protection from terrorists my ass! This is to keep the protestors away from Shrub - he can't STAND free speech. Every cent should be billed to the Republicans.

7. They were some of the staunchest opponents to the Iraq war
as well as the Anti-gay marriage ammendment. They are the staunchest defender of civil liberties in the list of all political parties. Their main problem is that they trust the free market a little too much.

11. You are exactly right about those points. I have one on my
local talk radio. I don't agree with him on some of his points but he can make for some hot and interesting radio on the topics of Invading Iraq, robbing our treasury, and civil liberties. The guy I listen to really dislikes Bush and he's voting for Kerry.

12. Frankly, I just don't trust Libertarians
On some issues, you could say we are objective allies, but that's as far as it goes. I say if they suit our purposes let's work together, but I don't pretend they are our friends. In this case, the convention financing, I happen to agree with them. I also largely agree with them regarding our drug laws, and the issues you mentioned. BUT, I know given half a chance that they would work to undo centuries of work by liberals to improve the condition of the oppressed and suffering. Libertarianism is an ideology of the selfish.

13. agreed...
That's why I'm here. Bit this kind of fodder can be used to drive a wedge into *'s support base. Any "fence" * voter can easily be persuaded to vote Libertarian...hopefully.

14. Republicans = 15 MILLION Democrats = 15 MILLION. Taxpayers = SCREWED
The parties have many millions in the bank...They should be funding their own conventions using member donations. That would truly make them a "party of the people"...rather than a party that confiscates the living sh!t out of people's pockets to pay for extravagant conventions.

6. It can be used if you're a Libertarian
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 02:03 AM by tritsofme
Because we get the same $40mil for our convention.

9. I know...
But I am trying to get every conservative I know to vote Libertarian. Most true conservatives are angry with Bush. I think I sold my dad, a Limbaugh and Drudge Report fan. I have been hammering away at him for months at the fiscal recklessnes of * and his neocon friends.

10. I like the term
not because of the $40 million, but I think it evokes the emotion that Republicons are so good at with labels. There's truth, especially with the runaway spending and deficits of the 'majority party', that we're paying for this war at the expense of our current and future citizens. I still think there's a way to use the term that would benefit us. :)

8. I may not always agree
with the libertarian party, but I'll never call them inconstistant.
