First of all, it still took 10 years to get out of Vietnam.
Secondly, there was no "client state" nearby Vietnam whose interests the U.S. felt it had to look out for.
The fact that there is this state in that region means we are in for an unending series of wars to make the region "safe" for that state.
It seems to make no difference that the state has 200 or more nuclear weapons and is very capable of, if not defending itself, at least vaporizing all those who would breach its defenses.
I'd say any young person who joins the military at this point had better have his or her eyes wide open and realize that, although * admits it can never be won, the war on everyone will last forever. There will be no more comfortable billets at German bases.
This will go on until the U.S. is destroyed financially. This means I am in the unenviable position as a peacenik of advocating my own penury.
