John McCain was On David Letterman tonight in a long Interview
McCain basically said Bush is better to prosecute the war against terrorism than Kerry, not that Kerry is not an outstanding person and a good friend of his.

I also like how the GOP is using "a wink and a nod" approach to the SBVT highly fraudulent ads and operation. McCain saying he really “denounces stuff like that”, then turns around and says the ads have been really effective in hurting Kerry in the polls (WHICH IS GOP BULLSHIT and I am a Republican D.C. insider and not just any ol’ Republican)

I/we have heard this standard "on message" GOP "playbook line" all week and it’s crap.

Further this is EXACTLY how Bush beat McCain in 2000 with this fraudulent con game. McCain wants to dismiss all the past, and move on "for the good of the country".

McCain is saying to me/us that he wants to move on with two draft dodgers, criminals, and complete frauds i.e. Bush-Cheney. Interesting!

Let us remember that U.S. Senator John Sydney McCain III (R-Arizona) has his own Arizona U.S. Senate seat re-election campaign going on. The guy running against him has no chance of beating John, but provides excellent opportunities to help get McCain’s head straight in the public view.

We know how to break McCain hard, as one of our members knows John and his wife very well on a personal basis.

I will post a letter in the DU 04 Campaign Forum and other information for all DUers to send out tomorrow. - NKR

PS: Many DUers have asked why all the fuss about McCain. With the above letter, I will also post what is going on “under the surface” on this McCain situation and why he is very important to both Bush and Kerry.

5. I am SO over this McCain meconium.

He was a war hero. I will never take that away from him. But his lapdog support of * in spite of the slander the * campaign gave him in 2000 is beyond credibility. What’s really crazy is that I even considered voting for him back then.

Thank God the “dream team” bipartisan VN Vet ticket never happened. He must have seen the attacks coming. Unfortunately, I can now only see him as a gutless, nutless tool of the evil empire that will be tossed aside once they’ve used him up. It’s really very sad.

On edit: I wasn't paying close enough attention to the reply button. I thought I was replying to the original post.

9. Hey, Hitler was a war hero , too.
He was a bonafide, four-years in the trenches decorated combat infantryman on the Western Front.

John McCain is selling his soul for personal ambition: so the party will love him and let him run for President again. John McCain is not a "nice" person; he's got a cheery smile and a warm demeanor, but he's hardcore right-wing. His campaign finance reform is a noble endeavor, but he's not a champion of the little guy in any other way.

Worse than anything else, he's in denial and pretty damned spineless. His speech this week equated "the war" as the war on terrorism and the elective daddy-revenge/landgrab of Iraq and mocked anyone who didn't see its unavoidablity as being cowards and in some state of delusion. He's dangerous and he used a cold-blooded lie to bully others into line for our world conquest. That's shameful.

I agree with you completely, if I understand correctly: he's no friend to the center or the left, and he's dangerous because he seems as if he might be.

I'm sure a lot of Republicans are utterly pissed off. Each party makes sense sometimes. The Dem party is most certainly not right all the time, but this group doesn't even consider true Republican values. As much as I thought the criticism about Clinton's economic policies was unwarranted, I liked the idea of Republicans' stress on keeping government from getting too big and keeping a balanced budget. Heck, that's exactly what Clinton did. They should have applauded him for that. Of course Reagan started the trend toward deficits.

I feel bad for true Repubs because the party has been hijacked from the moderate approach by these thieves. If it weren't for the Swift Boat Liars, there would be no contest.

BTW - Screw John McCain. I have no respect for that sycophant buttlicker. He's compromised ALL his principles.

11. The John McCain Flap–THE REAL STORY – READ!!!
PM Rec’d: - - hey GOPAgainstGW...,what is the situ on all this John McCain flap...mccain gets more ink and media attention than Kerry lately...why do we care about this traitor. thx, keep up the killer posts! XXXX

==REPLY==

I agree but Kerry need McCain BECAUSE:

U.S. Senator John Sydney McCain III (R-Arizona) comes from one of the most decorated three generation military families in U.S. history. Both his father and grandfathers were 4 Star Admirals, first time this ever happened in U.S. history. His cousin, was a Brigadier General in the United States Army. They are all buried together at Arlington National Cemetery. Hell battleships and destroyers are named after the McCain family. This is one reason Bush-Cheney want him so bad, to prop up their Middle East War fraud that is totally falling apart, by dancing McCain around in the public.

FYI, the ONLY reason John McCain is alive today is because the Viet Cong knew his father, John McCain II, was commander-in-chief of the Pacific forces in 1968 and they could use McCain as a pawn again the U.S. and U.S. troops. It didn’t work very well because his father bombed the hell of Hanoi, on Nixon’s and Kissinger’s orders, knowing that John was at Hanoi Hilton, but nobody had any choices in this matter.

McCain was a fantastic military man and has NOTHING to be ashamed about over that hell-hole God forsaken Vietnam/Southeast Asia War. We know plenty of military and non-military men and women that would walk through fire for John McCain!

Hell, Colin Powell, who was a Major at the time in Nam, directly participated in an Army cover-up of the horrible My Lai village Massacre by U.S. troops. It has been well documented in public records.

If Seymour Hersh, of the New Yorker magazine had not uncovered it a year later in 1969 (which he earned a Pulitzer Prize) the public would have never found out about the U.S. Troops atrocities against Vietnam civilians going on. Same thing with Kerry testifying in ‘71 about this horrible situation in Nam. John Kerry is the hero not Colin Powell!

Same thing with (the same person) Seymour Hersh breaking the story on the Iraq Abu Ghraib U.S. troops ridiculous abuse of prisoners, and then George Bush calling Seys a liar and a phony in a White House press interview! The public found out who the liar and phony was, - President George Bush! I/we can assure EVERYONE that Mr. Hersh has not had the last say over major Iraqi civilian and children abuse by U.S. Troops.

Now the public learns today about:
Two dozen soldiers may be charged in Bagram prison deaths
By Tom Squitieri, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — More than two dozen U.S. soldiers will face charges for their roles in the deaths of prisoners in Afghanistan, a U.S. military official said Wednesday. Charges could include negligent homicide for some of those directly involved in the deaths.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-09-01-afghan-abuse_x.htm

and if you missed this article, read:
Secret World of U.S. Interrogation Long History of Tactics in Overseas Prisons Is Coming to Light
By Dana Priest and Joe Stephens, Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, May 11, 2004; Page A01
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A15981-2004May10?language=printer

THE BOTTOM LINE: Bush-Cheney and the Pentagon are blackmailing McCain and they are behind this O’Neill SBVT fraud. McCain knows it AND WE KNOW IT!

Hell, McCain has fought Bush-Cheney since the day they arrived in Washington. Look at McCain’s record, he has done more for Democrat’s major bills than he has for Republicans! It’s the reason the far-right GOP hates McCain. McCain was against the Iraq War, just like Colin Powell, Bush’s father - President H.W. Bush and his ex- Secretary of State James Baker III, which can be well documented.

Now hopefully DUers understand why those two draft dodging maggots Bush and “5 time deferment - I had other priorities” Dick Cheney want McCain so bad. If McCain joins Kerry-Edwards side, the whole lid gets blown of this massive fraud and Bush-Cheney, along with key Defense department people, are history and facing serious criminal charges.

No way, when McCain swings by Arlington National Cemetery and has a prayer session with his distinguished military family, that the guy is at peace with himself and not going through living hell. And we also know for a fact his wife is extremely upset about this current situation and McCain is a big family man with seven children and four grandchildren. John is violating everything he has lived 68 years for. However, one way to find out, by called him “on the carpet” in the public media! –A.L.T.

13. I saw that interview and thought that David Letterman was great
He called McCain on the 2000 attacks that he had to endure from Bush*, and he said that he wouldn't have forgiven him. He also suggested that McCain owed Michael Moore an apology, because of his remarks in his speech, since McCain hadn't seen Moore's film. He also got McCain to say that he also thought that his friend, John Kerry, would make a good president. I am totally baffled by John McCain, and have brought this up, before, on DU. He has been leading the attacks on this illegal and lying administration and has been the recipient of the most dirty attacks from the Bush* league. So what is the reason that he continues to support him? It just boggles the mind.

BTW, I voted for John McCain in the 2000 primary, because I liked what he had to say and also because he was so critical of the candidate that I liked least, George W. Bush*.

14. Thanks for the info, GOPAgainstGW.
Are you truly an insider Republican?

Maybe I've missed your story; if you are could you explain what you do want for the country? And why are you at DU?

No offense meant. I'm just curious.

15. Yes, No More Bush-Cheney massive fraud & Iraq War Has Horrible
consequences and started a U.S.-Middle East Holy War that could last 50 years according to International Intel experts.

Ya know a lot of Republicans voted for Clinton against Papa Bush in 92. We like to think it was the reason Clinton won! :-)

The night before the 1992 Presidential election, James Carville and George Steph thought that Clinton was going to lose the election based on their internal polls. Clinton slammed Bush the next day 370/168 electoral votes.

In 04, Bush has lost massive Republican support particularly in his home State of Texas. It doesn't show up in the polls throughout the U.S. because many Reps are "closet Kerry supporters". You don't hear it on the news because the major corporations that own the media are typically Republican.

Also we have noticed a very large number of Republicans that state they are not going to vote in the Nov Prez election. They don't like Bush-Cheney, but don't want to vote Democrat. Kerry-Edward wins either way here because it further dilutes the Republican voting base.

Kerry-Edwards has a big lead over Bush-Cheney right now, and the GOP knows it! This is the reason they are trying every dirty trick possible to drag Kerry down.

Hope this was of help :-)
