Where's Mary Cheney?

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney waves from the stage with his family (L-R) daughter Liz Cheney Perry holding grandson Phillip Richard Perry, granddaughter Elizabeth Perry, granddaughter Kate Perry, wife Lynne, granddaughter Grace Perry, and son-in-law Phil Perry after speaking to the delegation on the third night of the 2004 Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden in New York City, September 1, 2004. Cheney stepped into the convention spotlight to defend the Iraq (news - web sites) war and take aim at Democrat challenger Senator John Kerry (news - web sites), who has blasted the Bush administration's war failures. 2. I was wondering that too!
Where is his most favorite daughter? It can't be that he was ashamed to have her on the stage with him after all of his warm fuzzies towards her lately, can it?

Seriously, I was kind of surprized that she wasn't there on the stage. They're trying to show how large their tent is and how compassionate they are. Figured that they'd at least let her walk out on stage with them.

13. She was there
with her partner.

But isn't telling that she didn't join them on stage?

5. Any word of Mary's absence in the media?
I would love to hear Cheney's explanation. Maybe Mary had "other priorities", but personally, I think that either she was asked to be absent, or she woke up and expressed her anger at the role her father has played in making gays second-class citizens.

Yes, Alan Keyes makes hateful statements about Mary Cheney, and Dick the heartless bastard, is silent.

10. Makes you wonder what kind of father Cheney is not to comment
about Keyes' harsh words. I don't care who you are or who your kids are, even if it's in private, you call him out on the floor.

7. Andrew Sullivan's take on "Where's Mary?"
http://www.andrewsullivan.com/index.php?dish_inc=archives/2004_08_29_dish_archive.html#109409893313020605

TWO SMALL POINTS: Cheney barely mentioned the economy. Almost no one has. They realize it's a liability.Another missing link: Mary Cheney. Where was she? She was "disappeared" from the family tableau, perhaps of her own choice. But the only reason she was not there was obvious. No openly gay people belong anywhere near that podium. Her position, at this point, is poignant - but, alas, increasingly impossible.

9. Mary said it was her decision not to attend.
I read this on another post on DU yesterday. I did see her as a panel member on cspan last week. This was a question & answer panel by the Log Cabin pubs. They sure aren't happy with the pub party, and were talking about going elsewhere.

17. They are in the back of the bus like all good little oppressed
people.

It's just absolutely pathetic on her side and on Cheney's. Pathetic.

12. ABC's The Note amazed at how little commentary on Mary's onstage absence
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html

We are just amazed at how little commentary there has been about the decision to have Mary Cheney not appear on stage with her sister and parents at the end of the speech. We are certain of a few things -- Mrs. Cheney will be furious about such speculation and talk, and that Mary Cheney is on the campaign payroll and someone whose parents are constantly talking about how proud they are of her.

They should be ashamed. Hateful son's a bitches. I hate these people more than I can put into words. Look at their "perfect" family photo. No Lesbian allowed. G-d I hate them. :grr: For someone to alienate their own daughter for POLITICS is REPULSIVE!!! Shame, shame, shame on them.
