The Democrats are acting a little smarter this time around. I think they have fallen into a trap many times over where a problem arises and they work in a bipartisan manner and then they are blamed for the problem only because they led on the solution. This time, for the bailout, they are still insisting on full agreement/compliance from all sides in the Congress. They must stick to that or they will be hosed again.
BUT, as soon as the bill is over, they need to pounce by putting out ads that explicitly state 1.) the problem was made by the Republicans and their sell-out-the-people deregulation policies, 2.) the economy was saved by the bipartisan effort led by the Democrats, 3.) no Democrat thought it should have been necessary in the first place but that they, and only they, could have brought about the broad effort needed to resolve it and finally, 4.) the problem was made by the Republicans and their sell-out-the-people deregulation policies (yeah, I know I repeated it and that is exactly what the Democrats should do).
There will still be Republicans who will claim that the bailout sold out the people and that it was the Democrats fault but it will be harder to sell because of the decent job the Demo leadership has done with this situation.
