OMG, Palin IS Elle Woods, Legally Blonde
The “Legally Blonde” fairy tales spin around the idea that, because Elle believes in herself, she can do anything. Never mind the steps that she skips. Never mind the fact that — in the rarefied realms of Harvard Law and Washington policymaking — she isn’t the intellectual equal of her peers. Self-confidence conquers all! (“Of course she doesn’t have that,” said Laura Bush of Palin this week when asked if the vice presidential pick had sufficient foreign policy experience. “You know, that’s not been her role. But I think she is a very quick study.”)

Real life is different, of course, from Hollywood fantasy. Incompetence has consequences, political and personal. Glorifying or glamorizing the sense of just not being up to the tasks of life has consequences, too. It means that any woman who exudes competence will necessarily be excluded from the circle of sisterhood. We can’t afford any more of that.

Frankly, I’ve come to think, post-Kissinger, post-Katie-Couric, that Palin’s nomination isn’t just an insult to the women (and men) of America. It’s an act of cruelty toward her as well.

Someone posted this link earlier and since Legally Blonde is on today, (isn't it always on TV?) and I've never seen it, I thought I'd take a look.

It's so true. The accomplished ppl in the movie are portrayed as freaks, geeks, arrogant, assholes, who treat the dipsy idiot as...well as a dipsy idiot. But, the dipsy idiot is the hero of the movie. (She even dresses up win glasses like Palin's to "look the part".

America thinks we're living in movie world, where people succeed because they are confident ("you got into Harvard", "yea, why, is it hard?") and solve the world's problems and the smart people are incompetent, arrogant, assholes who put down the real hero who saves the world.

What odd hero worship. McCain because he was a POW, Palin because she's an airhead.

Save us.

1. NO. I hate this comparison. Elle Woods was very bright.

She was underestimated because she was blonde, but she was very bright and capable. Palin's nowhere NEAR that league.

6. Exactly... Elle Woods was someone living up to her potential
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 03:40 PM by Gman
she was highly intelligent. At first she used that intelligence to pursue in a dumb blonde way the guy she was after. But she matured to understand she was every bit as good as she was and that wasn't a bad thing.

Palin is in the IQ range of Bush but without the education. Elle Woods probably had an IQ in the high 130's to low 140's. (Maybe higher). Palin and Bush are around 103 - 108. But whereas Bush is a high functioning moron, Palin is an uneducated garden variety moron. (Although to be fair, the old psychology IQ range of a moron was in the 51 - 70 range).

12. Sarah Palin is more like Jessica Simpson.
She thought Chicken of the Sea was chicken.

14. Palin and Elle Woods are opposites!
Elle Woods was a very deep, smart, kind young lady on the inside--but much of that was hidden because
she was so flamboyant, colorful and sweet on the outside.

Palin tries to act like she's deep and smart; and she tries desperately to project those things to the world--but
on the inside she's none of those things.

Elle Woods really was those things, she just needed to believe in herself. Sarah Palin wants us all to believe
that she's all of those things, but she's not--and she knows it.

Scratch the surface of Elle Woods--and there's a lot more there. She's got depth. Scratch the surface of Palin, and
there's really nothing there.

16. Ok, further into the movie, what I meant, is ppl love Palin because they THINK she is Elle Woods.
that she is that smart, but the smart people keep being mean to her, but she wins in the end.

I wonder if Palin had a 4.0 in college.....hummmmm....are we going to get her transcripts?

she wasn't an airhead, she just looked like one.
