Edwards Dismisses GOP Criticism of Kerry

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites) dismissed the Republicans' biting criticism of his running mate John Kerry (news - web sites), saying Thursday the GOP spent "all of their time and all of their energy trying to tear down a patriot," he said.

The morning after Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) and Sen. Zell Miller (news, bio, voting record), D-Ga., used their turns at the Republican convention podium to deride the Democratic presidential nominee, Edwards said that kind of rhetoric won't solve the nation's problems.

"The anger we heard from Senator Miller, the anger we heard from the vice president — anger is not going to change this country and do what needs to be done for America," Edwards told a town hall meeting at a community center in this Philadelphia suburb.

Edwards said he wished the Republicans would show "a little anger about the millions of people who lost their health care" and the millions who have lost their jobs in the last four years.

Edwards also made the rounds of Thursday morning talk shows to respond to the criticism of Kerry, calling it "completely over the top."

But...I thought the Kerry campaign isn't responding to the attacks? How can this be? <sarcasm>
