So MSRNC Sinks To Floating RACIST Memes?
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 08:28 AM by IWantAnyDem
Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell have BOTH come out and stated Obama is partly to blame because he didn't get the Black Caucus on board with the bail out bill.

Barack Obama is NOT EVEN PART OF THE BLACK CAUCUS!

The Black Caucus is a part of the House of Representatives. Barack Obama is in the Senate.

Logically, the only connection that can be drawn is RACE. The logic these racists are floating is, "Since Obama is black, he controls the black caucus."

This is BLATANT RACISM on the part of Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd. There is no excuse for this crap!

6. Todd also asked if Obama did enough to get his early supporters to vote yes.
He knows that it wasn't up to the Democrats to save this bill. What sense would it make for Democrats to help out Repubs who are worried about re-election, who voted no. Todd knows this but he slying plays dumb. At least I think he's only playing dumb.

Jesse Jackson Jr. was on a radio program this morning. He voted against the bill and he said the CBC had about 20 members voting against it. He said their main sticking points was protection for homeowners. Nancy Pelosi tried to get him and John Lewis to change their vote but they wouldn't budge.

Pelosi lived up to her word, she said she could get 140 votes from her side. She wasn't going to allow this bill to pass with a majority Dem support because she wasn't going to let the Dems get tagged with this bill.

Chuck Todd knew this. He mentioned it yesterday.

23. Hold on. Obama was at Congressional Black Caucus's annual conference
and got an award and gave a talk the day after the debate.
http://en.epochtimes.com/n2/united-states/phoenix-award-alc-obama-4933.html

I think Andrea said it was a dance he was at with them but in any case she said he was with them and could have encouraged them to vote for it but none of them did.

Only someone on CNN said to Blitzer that none of the Congressional Black Caucus voted for it and he corrected them saying 18 members voted yes and 21 voted no

He was correct
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aGUdAgJdBQL0&refer=home
Members of the Hispanic Caucus rejected the measure 12-8 and Congressional Black Caucus members voted 21-18 against the bill.

Mitchell didn't bother to check, just passed on what she heard and people will probably believe her. (Rare that someone like Blitzer bothered to fact check. Good for him) But I don't think she blamed Obama because they were all black but because they were all together.

I could be wrong but I didn't hear Todd mention the black caucus, just that many of Obama's early supporters voted no. Most of the black caucus were not his early supporters.

If we want to send mail it should be to correct Mitchell's big error about their vote, not racism. If he had been with any Dem group giving a big speech that night he'd have been held responsible by her the same way but he was with the black caucus...
It only sounds bad.

So in regards to the White Voters, male or female, who are not voting for Obama---they ignore the prevalent issue of racism. So racism doesn't account for anything and if Obama played that card he would be ripped apart. The MSM pundits make it seem as though racism and bigotry is non-existant.

Then when it comes time to move blame they blame Obama for not engaging the Black Caucaus? Obama is not running as the president of Blacks. These people need to take a brain pill. And because I'm hearing this was started by Leslie Sanchez this brings up the issue of Latino on Black racism. But that's besides the point.

As a candidate of the American people he does not give allegiance to one and his colour doesn't denote his "power" over a select group. The people will make their own decisions. Blacks have their own brains and make their own decisions as to the information in front of them. We don't follow blindly and this notion that Blacks are ALL on boat with Obama is ludicrous.

Where is REAL reporting?! What happened here?

49. Let's not go too far with this Latina and/or Black division. It is a bullshit meme if I ever heard
one from the primary.

Look, it is true that people competing for jobs and/or neighborhoods get into it. It is not limited to the Republican Latina on CNN or the ones who said wild things during the primary.

But that in and of itself does not create or promote a black/brown divide. It is also true of lower class or blue collar (whatever term feels more sensitive) whites and blacks. You tell enough low income people that blacks are taking your jobs and your women or encroaching on your former glory enough, there will be some whites who hate black people with an irrational passion. No one is talking about a white/black divide in those terms because it is not helpful of moving forward on the things that bring people together.

It doesn't take a Republican Latina to go back to the one black person answer for all black people rule. Chuck Todd has been denying race from Day 1. He is from the I-don't-see-color movement even when he uses it as a short hand way of explaining something.

Can you cure differences by blowing up on the few foolish individuals that finally JUST SAY IT instead of believe it and say nothing at all?

Maybe, but race will continue to be a factor even when people are chopped up for revealing their unspoken beliefs. The blatant stuff the Republican party says and does, does not make me forget the number of Geraldine Ferraros (and her manifold supporters) on this Democratic side. THAT CONTIGENT WHO SAY I'll get their vote but my sons and daughters better not bring one of them home.

37. This kind of BS infuriates me.
These sort of naive assumptions arise from white priviledge coupled with limited contact with different variety of blacks.

When you're in the majority, your race is never a factor. Situations are judged on the facts and "people are people". For minorities, race magically trumps facts, logic, and human emotions.

I was surprised too! Congressional Black Caucus members list. I was listing their names so that I could figure out who voted yea/nay, to get the 18 names (since that's my post that's linked :) ) and came to his name and said, wha?

Had they mentioned that he was a member, it would make more sense... but they left the implication hanging, leaving exactly the impression you noted.

The members who voted yea (or "aye"!):

Cleavers
Davis (Danny)
Brown
Clarke
Clyburn
Davis (Artur)
Edwards
Ellison
Fattah
Lewis
Meek
Meeks
Moore
Rangel
Richardson
Towns
Waters
Watt

BTW, not sure if Barack could arm-twist anyone, he's not a House member, especially when the two Lees, Conyers, and the chairwoman, Kilpatrick, voted no.

It's a bogus argument anyway - the Dems came up with their half, + 20... so they can bite me.

EDIT: ah, Ellacott beat me to it up thread, didn't even see that... doh!

that we'd be doing this TOGETHER or we wouldn't be doing it at all? If the Republicans do not feel we are in crisis to the degree that they will fall on their political swords to prevent catastrophe, so be it.

Pelosi delivered more votes than she promised. Boehner did not. She said it. She meant it. She delivered.

Trying to blame that on Obama is beyond stupid.
