John Shadegg, AZ Repub. Congressman, said NO Repubs. changed their vote due to Pelosi's speech
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 11:26 AM by jenmito
He was on MSNBC this morning, after Joe Scarborough and others (including Rudy "9/11" Giuliani) had been blaming Pelosi's floor speech right before the vote for the Repubs. changing their votes to "nay," saying it's false that ANY Repub. changed their vote because of Pelosi's speech.

All morning long, Repubs. have been blaming Pelosi for not "delivering" more DEM. votes AND for "causing" some Repubs. to change their votes due to her speech before the vote. They also blamed Obama, of course, for not being able to find more Dems. to vote for the bill. (They say he should've been able to get more votes from the Congressional Black Caucus.) :eyes: Even after repeatedly being told that there was a DEAL that the Dems. would deliver half of THEIR caucus (which they did) and the Repubs. would deliver half of THEIRS (which they didn't), Repubs. continue blaming Dems. Are they just stupid or are they just trying to make the Dems. look as guilty for the failure as the Repubs. and McCain (who bragged about the bill passing before it failed?)

1. Oh, they're just being Republicans.
Bears shit in the woods, 800 lb. gorillas sleep wherever they want, and Republicans lie. Everything is normal.

4. Yeah, but even Mika Brzezinski was agreeing with Scarborough, which she doesn't
always do. I hope most people see through the spin people are putting on this Repub. failure.

2. the whole "it's Obama's fault for not getting more Dems to vote for it" is
SUCH garbage, especially in light of the RNC ad just released that BLAMES Obama for the bill PASSING, created before the deal went through. And the fact that John McCain supported the bill and took CREDIT for getting other House Repubs " in line" escapes them, of course.

6. They just listened and pretty much dismissed him. They kept repeating their BS as if they never
heard him say that.

8. Pelosi needed to do that speech to get a majority of DEMOCRATS on board.
Why can't anyone see that? Bottom line, Pelosi delivered 60% of the Democrats. Bonerman delivered only a third of the Republicans.

9. Media falsely suggest that only Dems dismissed GOP accusation that Pelosi's speech cost GOP votes...
Media falsely suggest that only Dems dismissed GOP accusation that Pelosi's speech cost GOP votes as "nonsense":

Summary: Several media outlets falsely suggested that only Democrats denied Republican claims that Speaker Nancy Pelosi's speech on the floor of the House of Representatives before a September 29 vote on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 "cost some GOP votes." In fact, several House Republicans also have denied the allegation.

If the spin had worked, the Repigs would have stuck with it. A number of them were standing with Boehner when he made this idiotic claim. Cowards!

10. They're being cannibals.
House Republicans are trying to eat the Bush administration and Republican leadership alive in an attempt to save themselves.

The Republican party is no longer effective as a political party.
