Laura Bush says "This is the same man that I met at....
a backyard bar-b-que in Texas thirty-five years ago and married three months later." (Or something close) What does that statement say? Thirty-five years ago, Bush was a drunk.

12. Easy, you ask?
Not easy ... desperate.

Laura was in pretty sad shape in her 20s. The depression she went through must have been horrendous, because in pictures of her at that age, she is quite good-looking. By rights, she should have been able to bed down with half the male population of Austin and receive propositions of marriage from enough of them to keep the diamond business fat and happy through the decade.

I don't think Laura Welch was jonesin' for some hot, stiff, military-clad man-meat. I think she believed she was unlovable and beneath contempt and was as much grateful when Good Ol' George dragged her off to bed, then to the altar.

It's a shame what self-loathing will do.

8. Poor Laura
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 02:52 PM by sparosnare
I watched part of "Biography" about her on A&E. My take - she was very traumatized by the death of her boyfriend (although a freak accident, messed up her head). She spent years thinking she'd never find anyone then met charming George. He took advantage of her vulnerability with his 'charm' and she let him because she was desperate and afraid of being an old maid.
