Why no anger about Zell's 'wild eyed crazy man' speech ???
Gore speaks passionately about how our good name as a nation has been DRAGGED through the mud of the prison at Abu Ghraib: and the media slaughter him as some kind of psychopath ....

Yet: Zell Miller unleashes the mother of all vicious polemical tirades ... ALL lies ! ..... and they barely say a word about his demeanor .....

Damned 'liberal' media .....

4. Are they still on Zell today, though?
How many times did CNN run the "Dean scream"? Something like 800 times in a week? Even after they knew that the damping microphone he was using gave a wholly false report of what the room as a whole sounded like when Dean was talking?

I'll bet a dollar they can't find five seconds tomorrow to re-run any of Crazy Zell's rantings. Make that two dollars.

3. Actually, the media was hitting Zellout pretty hard last night.
Check out his appearance on Hardball, for instance. In the words of Keith Olbermann, Zell-ot went all "Aaron Burr" on Matthews, challenging him to a duel!

This morning and afternoon I've heard it echoed throughout the press... Zellout was a flop, and his speech will be remembered for years to come.

Since the media doesn't really think for itself, we're the ones who will have to blast them with "Wild Eyed Zell" and other such talking points. It is an echo chamber, after all... and honestly, I don't think Zell-ot did Bush any favors in that ridiculous speech last night. :D

9. I agree--he made no real points as to how Dems had not lived up to
their ideals. That "Bush makes us safer" crap is not going to change anybody's mind.

He is a sad, worn out husk of a man. Not worth even taking seriously enough to condemn.

And you're right, he just helped identify Bush with the frothing wack-os of both parties. No help whatsoever.

6. It's being talked about everywhere here in Florida. People are
laughing at how ridiculous Cheney and Zell looked screaming from a lectern with a cross on it! It was almost like a Saturday Night Live episode, I had to check the TV guide to make sure it wasn't!

It's on the radio, it's being talked about at the office. Even Repugs are shaking their heads in shame. Zell made Gore look sedated and Cheney is just plain CHUCKY!

7. Some lady today asked me if I'd seen Miller's speech last night
I said' YES, it was AWFUL, wasn't it? He's a raving lunatic". She said, oh, no, I thought it was magnificent. You must be a strong Democrat since my Republican and Democrat friends thought it was great. I then told her that what Zell was spouting was nonsense and not factual. We finally had to agree to disagree, but I was surprised to hear ANYONE say they thought that nutjob was good.

But then again, why bother? He's a decrepit wreck already.

16. You know, though... Tweety handled him pretty well last night.
Tweety was a gentleman, when it was clear Zell was losing it. Now, I'm sure that was largely "self-preservation," but I also wonder if Tweety is not picking up on the probability that Zell is seriously disturbed emotionally/mentally/physicalloy. Mid-stage Alzheimers is a strong possibility with personality changes and unrestrained rage. Where is Zell's family, is my question, if my theory is correct. Surely they'd have tried to get him examined--then again, probably not.

11. See Democracy Now for text or replay of excellent analysis by a guest
who said something like it being a night to remember....

a firey speech by a person who voted against every possible civil rights legislation in his lifetime, followed by a droll speech by someone who did everything possible to fight civil rights here and in legislation regarding Mandela.

Plus, both told us very clearly that the 'party' had no use for the UN and the U.S. would be ruling the world.

My words, my summation...the guest said it brilliantly.

Try to hear it - it says it all.

Zell did Kerry a big favor last night.

Any sensible and logical person in the 'R party' must be shrinking in embarassment re Zell.

15. The media had tempered their responses today
these conventions are a silly-fest and the media wouldn't want to appear partisan right now. I have a feeling that the Zell/Cheney hatefest will raise it's glorious head next week when dems just hammer away about it.

And let's be clear about Tweety. It's not like he was going after Zell. Zell is a nutcase who just started eating himself. Self-cannabalism.....never seen it live.

20. Next Week?!
Hey, by next week the Republicans will have switched to some different attack. What the hell is this sit-and-wait thing all about? What on earth are the Democrats doing, refilling their pipes and finishing War & Peace before deigning to offer a mild "Tut-tut, children" to the people who kicked them in the head? Geez!

I don't get the "you have respond before it happens" stuff. This convention is a disaster for the repukes and like Buchanan back in '92 with the Culture War stuff it will linger many weeks.

25. Times Have Changed!
We have a 24-hour news cycle now. You don't wait to let it sink in, because by the time it has sunk in they are on to something else. The public is innundated by 15-second clips these days. Impressions are formed by a million of them. If you sit around and wait, you've lost your opportunity.

17. I've Been Watching the News Almost All Day...
...switching back and forth among all three networks, and Zell has received next to no coverage. This morning MSNBC replayed his exchange with Chris Matthews and then said to log on to the Hardblog to get Chris' reaction to it. I did, and it was a waste of time. I had the misfortune (?) of missing last night's performance and would like to see more of it, or hear more about what he said. But the outlets are too busy saying that Kerry is toast to keep this loony in the news cycle, I guess.

And they played the Dean Scream for what -- for a week after it happened?

Fact checking is something journalist do not do without further instructions from Michael Powell and his goon squad of consolidated constituents.

28. They Don't Have Time
to check facts. The TV operations are understaffed to beat the band. Victory goes to the candidates who understand this and do the reporters' work for them. If Bush has figured it out and Kerry hasn't, that's not Bush's fault.
