OMFG: Couric's Question...
If a 15 year-old were raped by her father, and became pregnant, you would not advocate abortion for the mother? (or words to that effect)

Interesting question as to specifics, don't you think? IMO, that question wasn't random.

16. I love it when Repugs say they would counsel against it. Bush 1
said the same thing. Why don't they realize if it's made illegal, there is NO counseling for the poor, while Bush 1/Palin will send their family members out of the country if they choose to have an abortion. Assholes.

57. Exactly
There was no follow-up to pin her down. Here's an account of what she said:

*******************

"I would counsel to choose life. I would also like to see a culture of life in this country. But I would also like to take it one step further. Not just saying I am pro-life and I want fewer and fewer abortions in this country, but I want them, those women who find themselves in circumstances that are absolutely less than ideal, for them to be supported, and adoptions made easier."

On being pressed by Couric on whether she would force a victim of incest or rape to have the child, Palin said, "...personally, I would counsel the person to choose life, despite horrific, horrific circumstances that this person would find themselves in. And, if you're asking, though, kind of foundationally here, should anyone end up in jail for having an...abortion, absolutely not. That's nothing I would ever support."

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Palin_My_gay_friend_made_choice_0930.html

********************

Couric let her get away with this bilge. As VP, she wouldn't be counseling anyone. She would be trying to change the law to make abortion in this case illegal. Also, Couric failed to ask her whether she would make it illegal for the doctor to perform this abortion. And whether he/she would go to jail. If it is illegal for the doctor to perform the abortion, the girl will not have access.

Hopefully, Gwen Ifill will not whiff like Couric.

6. I am going to watch the news when it gets to the west coast.
too many posts on this interview, chosing sexual orientation, no morning after pill, this hypothetical question. Poor Palin, not being treated with deference but asked simple questions instead. I mean, why can't everyone just accept she has Experience(tm) and not have to prove she is capable of talking to anyone remotely challenging, even if that person is asking such simplistic things that would be way short of anything she'd run into as vp. Poor Palin.

7 months pregnant and doesn't look pregnant at all?

It seemed impossible to me that she could be pregnant in that picture. But from what you're saying, maybe. She claimed her abs were in good shape too.

My only experience is my sister in law and at 7 months, she looked pregnant! So I could hardly believe Phailin was.

38. How much did the baby weigh when born?
I've never seen a picture of Palin where she looked pregnant. And I don't buy this story about getting on a damn plane in labor with her fifth kid either! I barely had time to get to the hospital with my third! The first one is always iffy... you can't really judge with a first pregnancy. But after a kid or two, there's just no waiting around. I heard the same things over and over in childbirth classes, so this isn't really just anecdotal.

Yet look at a single mother with disdain as she uses WIC at the Supermarket checkout line. They also love to trash head start and every other federal program designed to help the disadvantaged, and specifically, single mothers.

To quote the late great social commentator Bill Hicks, if Fundies are so pro life why don't they lock arms in front of a cemetary.

44. It's there
Here is the exact question and answer:

Couric: If a 15-year-old is raped by her father, do you believe it should be illegal for her to get an abortion, and why?

Palin: I am pro-life. And I'm unapologetic in my position that I am pro-life. And I understand there are good people on both sides of the abortion debate. In fact, good people in my own family have differing views on abortion, and when it should be allowed. Do I respect people's opinions on this. Now, I would counsel to choose life. I would also like to see a culture of life in this country. But I would also like to take it one step further. Not just saying I am pro-life and I want fewer and fewer abortions in this country, but I want them, those women who find themselves in circumstances that are absolutely less than ideal, for them to be supported, and adoptions made easier.

Couric: But ideally, you think it should be illegal for a girl who was raped or the victim of incest to get an abortion?

Palin: I'm saying that, personally, I would counsel the person to choose life, despite horrific, horrific circumstances that this person would find themselves in. And, um, if you're asking, though, kind of foundationally here, should anyone end up in jail for having an … abortion, absolutely not. That's nothing I would ever support.

Couric: Some people have credited the morning-after pill for decreasing the number of abortions. How do you feel about the morning-after pill?

Palin: Well, I am all for contraception. And I am all for preventative measures that are legal and save, and should be taken, but Katie, again, I am one to believe that life starts at the moment of conception. And I would like to see …

Couric: And so you don't believe in the morning-after pill?

Palin: ... I would like to see fewer and fewer abortions in this world. And again, I haven't spoken with anyone who disagrees with my position on that.

Couric: I'm sorry, I just want to ask you again. Do you not support or do you condone or condemn the morning-after pill.

Palin: Personally, and this isn't McCain-Palin policy …

Couric: No, that's OK, I'm just asking you.

Palin: But personally, I would not choose to participate in that kind of contraception

Sure...why not?

Except where it comes to pregnant Iraqi women and Iraqi infants, that is.

In these cases, the use of white phosphorus, daisy-cutters, RPG's, small-arms fire, fuel-air munitions and cluster bombs are all perfectly acceptable methods of birth control.
