Fruedian slip?
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 05:31 PM by Uber Llama
I don't know if anybody noticed, but last night during his speech Cheney said that over 1100 American soldiers have given their lives in Iraq. I was not aware that the number had broken 1000, but perhaps Cheney knows more than we do. I would be extremely angry if I was not told about the occurance, because I watched the news for three fucking hours every day this week for Government class. I refuse to believe that they would cover something like this up.

4. Here's the paragraph, clipped from the text of that link...
In the global war we are fighting, we owe a mighty debt to the men and women of the United States armed forces. They have fought the enemy with courage and reached out to civilians with compassion, rebuilding schools and hospitals and roads. They have won stunning victories. They have faced hard duty and long deployments. And they have lost comrades, more than 1,100 brave Americans, whose memory this nation will honor forever.

2. How they classify the dead and wounded is very sly...
I believe they don't classify them as KIA in Iraq if they die out-of-theater from their wounds, ie. a hospital in Germany.

Same thing with WIA; unless they are evacuated, they aren't counted as wounded.

I doubt we know the real number, and wouldn't surprise me that he does.

Anyone else have any info on the classification of KIA/WIA?

6. Was talking about Afganistan too. But his motive
was to get it out there before it could be used against them. You know, dropping it in subliminally.

8. Given that the context was "in the global war we're fighting", and since
Cheney and crew are ALWAYS trying to link Al-Qaeda and the Taliban with Iraq, it is quite likely that the Dickster included the number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan with the Iraq numbers.

Just my guess.

But, do you doubt the Bush regime is evil enough to lie about the number of dead in Iraq?

10. Not at all, arbusto...
Hence the suspicion.

Damn, that's dark to even contemplate, but nothing shocks me any more.

11. Intentionally wrong to undercut the outrage when it hits 1000.
When everyone starts shouting, Cheney will say, what's the hubub, bud? I said it was 1100 weeks ago?
