Gergan said it was a "disgusting" hate speech. She just interrupted him and went for the kill. It was shocking...Matthews tried to stop her once and she just went after Gergin saying that Zell was a great American and to stop saying he was a racist. She thrashed the Democratic party and just kept going. Fineman and Reagan just backed up...stunned.

16. wow, I have to revise my opinion of David Gergen.

I always saw him as (a) Repug and (b) one of the Bush-like folks who never accomplished much of distinction but always got rewarded with more and more prestigious positions.

An honest republican. There were more such as Jeffords and McCain, but Jeffords renounced the neo-con repubs and McCain folded under to them.

keynote address very hard. It was a failure because of the duplicity and hypocrisy and the fact that he has praised Kerry in the past = in a speech. I can't believe the Rove and jesters wouldn't have checked that out.

20. Zell's speech wasn't racist in itself, but his demeanor, tone, and drawl

conjured up frightening flashbacks of nasty, racist, rednecks railing against the "SOO-preme Cote" interfering with their God-given right to keep "the nigras" in their place.

Putting him up there was a HUGE blunder by the Republicans. An excellent example of why diversity is important - I'll bet that no black people vetted that speech or participated in Zell's speech prep. If they had, I have no doubt that they would have immediately picked up on that vibe. As it was, no one seemed to notice it until it was too late - until old Zell was standing on national television looking and sounding like George Wallace at his worst.
