Meanwhile, they Kerry campaign has been acting like they were trying to win the award for good sportsmanship.

Kerry should have been bitch slapping George around from the very beginning for his miserable presidential record and total lack of qualifications to continue to hold the office.

10. Some people think he was waiting for the last minute, but it's a mistake

When you are in a fight, you want to land every punch you can all through the fight. You don't wait until the last round and hope to land a knockout punch. The Republicans have been landing punches all along, we seem to be waiting to throw that one punch in the last round that's going to save us. It's a terrible strategy and Kerry has been damaged because of it.

It's great that Kerry is hinting that he's going to start fighting now, but now matter what he does at this point is going to look a little like defense because he allowed the right wing to be on the offensive for months without a decent response.

Kerry can probably still win this, but the campaign has made some very serious mistakes that any idiot should have been able to avoid.

David Frum, is appearing on the talk circuit to try out the oligarchy's new political tack: Kerry's responses are weak and ineffective. Compared to the inane bluster coming from the RNC, Kerry's response is a tonic for those who long for real solutions to real problems.

Frum is a "neo-con", attended Yale (George Walker Bush's alma mater) and was a speech writer on economics and Canadian politics for G.W. Bush until 2003. Frum is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and also contributes to The National Review, the Weekly Standard, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Britain's conservative paper of record, The Daily Telegraph. His name is associated with the Wall Street Journal.

Frum helped coin the phrase "Axis of Evil" while writing speeches for G.W. Bush. One story is that he lost his job when his wife publicly boasted of his coining that phrase.

It is a fair question to ask whether the carping and grousing from some in our party (most high profile Democrats have been remarkably disciplined) is more important to them than defending our candidate. There is a wealth of responses from the Kerry camp and their surrogates that we could elevate here and elsewhere. It is counterproductive and false to assert that our candidate's responses and appeals are weak or inneffective. Now it appears that the priority of some to harrangue about our nominees first, before they flatten Bush and his cabal, will put them in league with the opposition's rhetoric.

clinton has been out there for kerry for a long time. carville has done a lot such as help with fundraising. but those on du who complain the most just don't pay attention.

28. Some dimwits assume that if it's not on the front page or the evening news

then it must not have happened. The fact is that Kerry surrogates responded almost immediately to the charges. Press statements were released. Internet ads were released.

Could the Kerry campaign have done more? Sure, they could have drained their entire treasury responding to these charges. Would it have made a difference? Doubtful. Indeed, I'm sure the press would have said the Kerry campaign walked into a trap and, by overreacting, only gave the Swift Boat Vets story greater exposure.

It was a no-win situation from the beginning, for the simple reason that the people behind the attacks were not constrained by the truth, because the GOP flacks fanning the flames have no honor, and because the press has no principles.
