7. Credit meltdown is it. Georgia was another attempt
Seems to me that the Pugs attempted to set up two opportunities for McBush to look like a real hero. But they fucked up the situation and McBush was too pig headed to play along and do what he was told, so he totally fucks up tailor made situations.
I think they have more than shot their wad and only got themselves wet.

18. War with Iran.
Nobody buys "imminent" attack warnings anymore. The margins will likely be too wide for plain old election fraud.

That leaves war...

McCain has ruled out Pakistan. N Korea has nukes and is too far away from our present fronts. Russia is just plain insane. That leaves Iran.

Now what I wonder is, what do we do if it happens?

21. McCain may have ruled out Pakistan, but Bush hasn't...didn't we
just fire some missiles in there and kill an al-qaida leader?

Isn't that what Obama suggested we do, and Palin agreed to?

Hmm...

I think that'll be the region that explodes, our entire army's in the neighborhood already.

We won't do anything with Iran...they'll obliterate Israel.

37. What you say is true, but would Bush risk making McCain look bad?
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 05:52 PM by FatDave
Presumably the desired result is to help McCain's chances. It may be tricky to do that by doing the thing that McCain said we shouldn't do.

Besides, to go into Pakistan after Al Qaeda and possibly even Bin Laden.... I dunno, it just doesn't seem like Bush to go after the right people. I'm no 9/11 conspiracy theorist, but the connections between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family are very real, and I'm not sure if capturing Osama was ever really on the table.

Edit to add: And what you say about Iran and Israel is a very good point. Is it possible that they don't have any good October surprise options?

42. I think McCain makes McCain look bad. I think he could
totally fuck up a free boxed lunch and a one-car parade.

That being said. They've used the right wing media to their advantage before, couldn't they wag the pakistani dog and bring McCain along for the ride? Couldn't they have some low level attack on our troops be the catalyst for a McCain policy reversal with him saying, "We're gonna go in there and kill them" as he is a staunch defender of our veterans (except wounded ones) and then VOILA! Osama Bin Hidin' is killed or captured.

I guess that'd be the best case scenario, but of course, Obama has already said he'd go in there and kill terrorists with or without pakistan's help...

It may be hard to pull off, but I think they'll try something. Desperate repukes are dangerous animals.

43. I guess the end result is that any war helps McCain.
That's the conventional wisdom anyway. I'd like to think it would backfire, but I doubt it would.

But I'm laughing my ass off at "fuck up a free boxed lunch and a one-car parade".

20. I believe a North Korean crisis may be in the making
The DPRK has declared their intention to resume reprocessing plutonium in the coming weeks. No output from this procedure will result for several months so I wonder if BushCo is contemplating entombing the fissile material before any weapon grade material comes back out of the enriching facility.

Is the North's professed nuclear arsenal potent or credible given the failure of their nuclear tests?

23. I think...
N.K. would benefit more from selling the material to terrorists, as they need money more than a bomb...

I think they have had a successful underground test, so they're certainly a threat. But the victory hailed by the Bushies when NK shut down the reactor was short-lived, as Bush (as always) didn't keep his end of the bargain with promises of economic aid...
