Will the timing of the Bail Out Help McCain change the topic?
If the Bail out leads to a soaring stock market over the next 30 days, will that be politically bad for our side? It won't change the fundamentals of the economy, but it might temporarily divert the economy from being on the front pages everyday the way it has for the past three weeks. That will enable McCain to try to make something else the issue. If we can keep the economy the main focus for the next 30 days, I think we win, hands down. McCain's only hope is to move the economy to the back burner. Does the timing of the bail-out and a potential run-up in the market help him do that?

1. No, it won't help him. DOW futures are down almost 200 points.
The damage is done. Main street is hurting, and will be for a long time. Nothing Congress did last week is going to change a thing for average American voter.

7. Of course it's not just the rich with money in the market these days
With defined benefit pension plans becoming a thing of the past and defined contribution 401K plans taking their place a lot of middle class folks have investments in the market.
