The apology to John Kerry thread:
I'm a Dean fan because I like the fight in him. I didn't think Kerry had it. I honestly didn't think he was capable of taking off the gloves to come out swinging.

His speech isn't even over and I can already admit how wrong I was. So here it is: John Kerry, I'm sorry for underestimating you. I was always planning to vote for you, but now I'm going to do it with a smile on my face. Thank you.

:yourock:

24. Yup. I won't say I always had faith, but I got the spirit a few months ago
I knew he was a wily son of a bitch, and an aggressive one as well. He's a lawyer, he's a closer, he's won a lot of races he wasn't supposed or expected to win. I've been waiting for this moment. THANK GOD.

I needed to see the proof for myself. I think it's safe to say I'm getting enough proof to last me for several weeks. This speech is freakin' incredible.

8. Remember, this is same Kerry that basically took on Nixon and congress...
....when he was still a young guy.

There's metal in that man beyond the shrapnel he carries from his time in war.

I've never been known for my patience though. I like being wrong about this. It feels good. Now if CNN would cut back to the speech I was watching damn it. :grr:

12. Here's the thing
I spoke to Kerry campaign folk all this week, and in the weeks before. They were NEVER panicking. They "knew they were going to taker a hit" because of the spending gap and because of the convention. They were ready for it.

They took the hit. Theyt're still standing. They forced the SBV guys to come out now, instead of being the October surprise.

And now...

They took a hit because they are weak and cowardly, and have no idea how to "fight back." I know this is true, because I read it here. Over. And over. And over. And over. And over. And over. 13. I'll add mine.
I was going to vote for him just to get the mafia dudes out of the house. But, the swift boat ads convinced me that he is the man, because I am anti-war. What he did during the war does not impress me, it is what he did afterward.

Don't worry too much Kerry and Edwards both believe in this election A LOT. They aren't going to piss it away. We cannot afford bush for another 4 years.

18. Ok....
I just could not understand WHY Kerry wasn't ignoring the swift boat crap and taking the real issues to chimpy. The Republicans can not run on the issues.

He did just that tonight, and I'm sorry for even thinking that this was going to turn into another DNC disaster.

19. For those who have never seen a Kerry campaign up close before,
this is what's meant by "good closer." It doesn't matter what the polls say on August 30th, the idea is to reach your zenith on election day. Kerry was in full "Mariano Rivera" mode tonight, and I expect much more of the same for the next two months.

22. He may not have to . . .
Moreover, he's given the press enough to follow up on this for a good while. Remember, Barnes is going on 60 Minutes next week and the Allison piece in Salon is getting some play.

It's possible that he brushed them back for awhile.

Of course, that would assume that they have ANY sense of shame, so who knows? But I suspect that it's been a long time since someone has called Cheney out so loud and clear (damn, Dick - he called you a COWARD!) and he seems thin-skinned enough to back down

26. The Repubs are going to be flailing around for a bit, I expect.

A really simple thing about Rove & co: they're great on attack, not so hot on defense. It usually works for them because more often than not, the opposition is too blindsided to hit back. Kerry just whacked them with a sock full of loose change. I fully expect them to react with the whining, sputtering incredulity of every bully who's ever been smacked back.

and, they don't have a leg to stand on, because it's all true. Cheney DID get five deferments. Bush DIDN'T serve. it's just that up till now, they've been banking on the hope/belief that Democrats are the "nice" party and wouldn't stoop so low as to actually throw the truth in their faces like that. i mean! nobody else does!

28. Good strategy to focus on Cheney tonight
Most people know about the questions about Bush's National Guard "service" even if they don't believe he did anything wrong. But I don't think most people know about Cheney's multiple deferments.

So it was really smart of Kerry to focus on him. A deferment or two might not seem so bad - but FIVE?! That says SO much about Cheney - that time after time after time, he had the opportunity to serve and not only failed to do so, actively avoided it.
