Palin: “Just Trying to Give Tina Fey More Material"
Palin: “Just Trying to Give Tina Fey More Material"
posted by John Nichols on 10/05/2008 @ 11:31pm

The surreal satire of a political campaign that is Sarah Palin's quest for the vice presidency touched down Sunday in Nebraska, a state that has reliably backed Republicans presidential tickets in every national election since 1968.

Why Nebraska?

Palin said she was just in an Omaha kind of mood.

"The pundits today on TV --- one of them was saying, check out the vice president's schedule, check out where she's going -- she's going to Nebraska," Palin told an enthusiastic (New York Times booing) crowd at her rally in the largest city of one of the reddest states.

"But the pundit was saying the only reason she'd be going there is ‘cause they're scared, so they gotta go there and shore up votes. And I so wanted to reach into that TV and say no, I'm going to Nebraska because I want to go to Nebraska," the Republican contender chirped.

Palin claimed that she has personally organized the trek.

"And you can ask -- and probably the reporters will ask -- the top dogs in our campaign why am I in Nebraska, and it's truly because I asked to come to the heartland of America today," the Alaskan governor announced.

The governor is, of course, lying.

2. God, she's full of shit
If she's in Nebraska because she wants to be then why the hell isn't she in Minnesota when she was practically begging to be sent there last week to save the state?

5. She was here in NE last night because....
McCain is for the first time in over 40 years.. quite possibly going to lose the 2nd congressional district (OMAHA).. which means that 1 of our 5 Electoral Votes would go away from McCain and to Obama. In a 169 / 169 tie.. that could change to 170 / 168 for Obama.. and be a deal breaker.

Obama opened up 2 field offices here last month with 15 paid staffers. He has a decent shot at getting Omaha.. we have the biggest minority population (10% black, 6% hispanic) in the state. We also have had a HUGE increase in democratic registrations. Omaha went 45% - 55% to Bush over John Kerry... not bad in a blood red state.

Additionally - we have a couple of things. Senator Ben Nelson (D) is very popular here. We're also home of the infamous Chuck Hagel.. the "Liberman" of the Republicans. I'm not really sure if ANYONE likes Hagel anymore (Dems or Repubs).. but we all have heard about his thoughts on the Iraq war.

Here's a great Washington Post article that sums up Omaha a bit:

6. All this woman has become is a curiosity...
a punchline to a bad joke, a footnote in political history, a flash in the pan, a one note dolt.

Her crowds are full of people that only want to see her because of the notoriety she has garnered by her wierd and unusual persona. She's a curiosity, kind of like one of those canvas draped sideshows at a seedy carnival. Come see the two headed snake, the bearded lady, rubber man...

7. They fell for the feint. Obama doesn't need that one electoral vote in Omaha. But McGrumpy does.
Excellent. Every hour spent in Nebraska is an hour that can't be spent in a state that really might matter to them, such as Virginia, which I think McCain is going to lose.
