I wonder how he got along with Martin Sheen on the West wing set?

Lord, he never shuts up. And he always speaks so loudly.

4. He reminds me a lot of his character in "Reversal of Fortune"
Alan Dershowitz. A pushy blowhard.

And that's probably a good thing; I think he's one of the better actors out there.

7. I'm sure they got along fine
Except for his inexplicable support of Bush, Silver is actually a pretty liberal Democrat -- definitely conservative on defense issues though -- and he and Martin Sheen more than likely agree more than they disagree. I'm sure that any political conversations they had consisted of Sheen asking him how such a smart guy could be so fooled by Bush and Silver trying to persuade Martin Sheen that Bush really is a compassionate conservative who is the best person for the "war on terra".

8. He does claim socially progressive issues
And used to claim them even more forcefully, but his rhetoric at this point both for bush and against Kerry is pretty despicable. It's limbaughesque. Any progressive cred he once had seems quite withered in the face of that relentless rhetoric.

11. I don't remember him ever being "progressive."
Someone said he was a Clinton supporter. That surprises me. I remember seeing him in Reversal of Fortune and thinking, "There's that winger jerk, Ron Silver." Maybe I'm clairvoyant. :shrug:

14. I saw him on Politically Incorrect
back in 96 or 97, and he gave what I remember as a pretty impassioned defense of social safety net, etc. Of course, maybe it's been enhanced in my memory in contrast to what we hear from him now.

Anyway, this week on After Hours he occasionally harps about being a social progressive, but other than lip service, he sure as hell doesn't invest much in it.

16. He's probably a finger-to-the-wind kind of guy.
Or he's a Horowitz type, so humorless and extreme it doesn't matter to him which side he's on.

22. They are the WORST!
Dennis Miller claims to be one of those (though Franken says he was always a bit of a righty), and Geraldo Rivera. And Jeff Jarvis of Buzzmachine.com. They act like they were personally assaulted and everyone else should feel that way too (though they wear their assaultedness like a badge only they could have earned).

15. He's a has been b actor with no style. He's a pig. His capped teeth are
a disaster. His tan in a tube skin color is bizarre. His long hair receding hairline half mullet is lame. His last big role was Angelo Dundee in the abysmal 100 million dollar Ali. He is so comfortable uttering cries of pre-emptive strikes. He gets a twisted glean in his eye when discussing pre-emptive strikes. He is a fucking lunatic. Grrrr. My fingers hurt from pounding the keys with such comtempt.

19. Hes not even worthy of mentioning any longer?
Ron Jr put him neatly into place though the spotlight once again was quickly snatched from Mr Reagan, but he got his digs in, Silverman is a complete joke and anyone who watched the exchange now knows it without a doubt..

Thank you Ronny ;-)

20. Left coast Hollywooder out of touch with ORDINARY Americans ...
...

Ordinary Americans like
* Arnold Schwarzenneger
* Ronald Reagan
* Mel Gibson
* Charlton Heston
* John Wayne

...

err....

Maybe theres nothing wrong with someone being in the film industry??? Maybe it's just that they disagree with you and you want to find some excuse to attack them for something OTHER than the issues at hand.

But it IS kinda ironic that Republicans spend so much time bashing Hollywood liberals because they're from Hollywood. Yet their HERO made his living (and his deferrment) from acting in Hollywood.

Go figure.

21. Yes
hate may be a strong word for him , I reserve my hatred for Bush and Zell and their ilk but he's definately working it for me.

When he pulls his thin lips over his teeth I see the kind of man that slaps his two year old for crying.

24. New industry: lose it in show biz, become a republican hack!
This guy can't act. The last role he had was as a lizard from outer space. So what do you do when you get no roles, or when people decide your clearly not funny (Miller), why, you become a Republican hack. What a total asshole.

27. Why is it when
Kerry has celebrities standing behind him he's immediately bashed by the Repubs, but when some redneck stands behind Bush all of a sudden his/her opinion matters? I mean, does Toby Keith really look like someone whose opinion you would value?

31. Hate to say it, but it's the Israel thing. I saw this being discussed
on TV the other day, and I have to agree. All the Jewish parents picking up the phone, calling their Hollywood kids, "What do ya think you're doing, not backing the friend of Israel? You should be ashamed of yourself." Etc., etc. This would explain Koch and Silver and a few others, who are definitely socially progressive and Democrats not just in name.....except for this weird aspect of backing Bush.
