WTF is going on here. Are we really living in a world where a presidential ticket
is just THIS close to whipping up a lynch mob against their opponents?

Am I dreaming this?

So they try to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which is the KKK demographic.

I have The TV commercials on with the sound lowered or off.

Lately this "American Carol" commercial is on a lot. And it is very violent. It shows the Michael Moore clone being beaten about the head, assaulted, and thrown out a window.

The first time I saw it, it had the sound on. ANd it didn't seem so offensive with the joking words. But with the sound off, it looks like a bunch of deranged Nazis slam dunking Michael Moore in a most brutal fashion.

I keep thinking of how Moveon couldn't get the ad space for their "General Betrayus" ad. And yet this physical attack on one of the progressive crowd's heroes goes on and on, like some sort of demented Energizer bunny.

53. The low ticket sales are a conspiracy by the Hollywood elite!
I shit you not, the 3 minutes this morning that I watched Faux, this is how they were spinning it. They said that if you buy a ticket for that movie, you'd be allowed in, but if you looked at the ticket, it was actually for another movie. Some theaters were also listing the movie as rated R, even though it was a PG-13 Movie.

I was surprised they were able to keep a straight face as they spewed their bullshit.

5. Josh Marshall just posted the same thing.
I've been EXTREMELY upset by this all fucking day, and nobody is calling them on it. Marshall's post:

10.06.08 -- 7:04PM // link | recommend (134)

Who They Are, What They're About
So we have McCain today getting his crowd riled up asking who Barack Obama is and then apparently giving a wink and a nod when one member of the crowd screams out "terrorist."

And later we have Sarah Palin with the same mob racket, getting members of the crowd to yell out "kill him", though it's not clear whether the call for murder was for Bill Ayers or Barack Obama. It didn't seem to matter.

These are dangerous and sick people, McCain and Palin. Whatever it takes. Stop at nothing.

they can't expect to turn everything around with just the third debate.

McCalin could catch Bin Laden and it wouldn't matter at this point.

The Repugs are all in trouble and they know it. The landslide for Obama will help carry other Democrats on his coattails and swing the balance of power for a generation, if not longer.

We just need to stay calm, stay focused, and don't make any unforced errors (and keep our candidate safe) while the opposition goes under for the third time.

18. the followers are slipping into delusional territory
the leaders are so cynical as to exploit the delusions.

There is, imo, a delusional psychological pull for some - to want to believe in their and their leaders righteousness so much, that even when the leaders dive into the ridiculous (and dangerous) the followers strive to protect themselves from cognitive dissonance and having to rethink *everything* they had previously come to believe about their world (and rw leaders), that if given any shred of thing to hang onto as appearing of making sense (within the increasingly delusional world view), is grabbed onto - and anything which threatens to bring reality into the thinking which would force the painful cognitive dissonance - is demonized reflexively.

And with rw leaders (Palin and McCain) intentionally stoking the fires in the hope of political exploitation, and the rw radio (and fox tv and other rw media) fanning the fires... it starts moving into dangerous territory.

But don't be frightened my friend our side is growing daily. Their turn of fear, loathing and hate are coming to an end.

We (as in all Americans who see them for who they are - traitors)will not tolerate their bullshit anymore. If it is a fight they want then they will get more than they bargained for.

They are so careless that we need to pay close attention when Palin or McCain break the law and try to incite violence we need to make sure to file complaints with the local police departments and get charges filed. We need to make sure the FBI is involved.

These actions are unbecoming of a Presidential and VP candidate in the US.

The "kill him" yell was rather clearly aimed at Ayers.

This is slowly being treated like McCain and Co. treated the lipstick comment. I think the terrorist comment at the McCain rally was worse.

We don't have audio/video on this yet that I've seen, and the news article sources don't make it clear who the maniac was referring to.

What if it was Ayers? Is it appropriate for a VP candidate to whip up this kind of violent impulse in followers, and say nothing when the naked emotion is stated?

What's your answer to that, smooth guy?

20. Smooth guy? I am just trying to avoid collective embarassment
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/06/in_fla_palin_goes_for_the_roug.html

""Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," Palin said.

"Boooo!" said the crowd.

"And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,'" she continued.

"Boooo!" the crowd repeated.

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience. "

Thats what we have to go on, as far as I can tell. And there is nothing there as far as I can tell that indicates that this was aimed at Obama.

As for your question: No, I don't think its ok. I think its ugly and reprehensible.

Everyone was rightfully angry at the feigned indignation the McCain campaign was putting out over the lipstick comment. "They threatened to kill Obama" when as far as the story supports it right now, it has no legs to stand on, is not much better.

I say go after the terrorist comment at the McCain rally. There you can hit McCains honor and morals, much harder.

37. Agree. Terrifying.
It was not my argument that this wasn't ugly or did not warrant outrage. I just took logical exception to the claims that this was a threat against Obama. Outrage over something that seemingly has no basis in the facts (as we know them presently) won't score any points where it matters.

But the terrorist yell (and apparently also a "Kill him") directed at Obama at the McCain rally.. Now there is something to go after.

And overall it paints a very troublesome picture. There is plenty of stuff there, without fudging with facts.

33. The 'him' could be Obama or Ayers. It's not possible to tell yet.
It might not be possible to tell even when we have audio.

But I frankly find it much less likely that this nobody Ayers is inspiring a thirst for blood in the Republican audience, than that they've been convinced by all the Hannity rhetoric that Obama really is a terrorist Muslim out to usurp the presidency.

They've been stoking fear and hatred of Obama based on these lies for months now. That's where the "Kill him!" is more likely to come from, in my opinion.

a McCain or Palin Klan meeting with camcorders to make these people pay with time behind bars if at all possible. And maybe we can be the media in that regard, too. These freaks are just bullies who say these things because they're anonymous, we need to get footage out there, then we'll see who's brave enough to keep threatening a presidential candidate.

...we always knew that, if it came down to it, that precisely this would be factored somehow, somewhere into the Republican campaign. McCain and Palin have failed miserably on all of the relevant issues, failed to make any of their thinly-veiled cast aspersions stick to Obama, so worse has come to worst for them. And as predicted, even this is not beneath them.
