Did anyone notice that Zell's speech was heavily plagarized last night?
I did not watch the speech on TV but I heard alittle bit of it on the radio this morning. His "it is the soldier" statements were taken directly from this RW literature I got last Christmas time from some Texas minister who makes big bucks and has a big ranch in Texas. Can somebody hekp me here? This guy is always being watched by the IRS. Anyway it was word for word the same.

15. (s)he was cribbing from a line Sam used on West Wing.
Mallory comments on a stirring passage from a speech he's written and he notes that he thinks it was originally from Camelot.

He then says "good speechwriters 'borrow' from others... great one steal outright"

5. that line sounded like Douglas McArthur circa 1952
or is it MacArthur? I was focusing more on zigzagzell foaming at the mouth and the venom and hatred (ZELL ON EARTH) jokes

7. It was stolen directly from an old email that snopes debunked some
time ago -- see the link above. He changed the "club" reference to "spitball". Maybe that is why the royal family tossed them out of the box for tonites repeat of the 2000 campaign speech.

9. Do you think that old RW email was the "documentation" Zell was
carrying around at his CNN interview? Next to his shopping cart full of "stuff"?

12. Not exactly "plagiarized"
That isn't from a single e-mail passed around last Christmas. It's a well recognized mantra on the right.

Plagiarism would require that he try to pass it off as his own work. Instead he was specifically trying to evoke the already known piece in their memory. And he did essentially give attribution to it.

14. Much of it came from an email chain
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 09:35 AM by silverlib
Got this from a previous post..

http://martinirepublic.com/item/zell-miller-s-speech-based-on-email-hoax

snip - Someone ought to tell Zell that not everything he receives in his inbox is the gospel truth. Jesse at pandagon revealed a portion of Miller's insane diatribe was lifted from a chain email as we noted yesterday.

And today, it looks like the core of Miller's attack on Kerry is similarly founded entirely on GOP email agitprop - snip

This site also has a copy of Snopes debunking of all the defense items that Miller alleges Kerry voted against.

Edited to note that this site is mentioned in post #4 - Sorry, didn't catch it.
