Sarah Palin wows 1,000 at private party in Boca Raton
Updated 07:33 a.m., October 7, 2008

BOCA RATON — Sarah Palin led a glitzy, private reception and fundraising dinner Monday night, raising an estimated $1 million amid a crucial, two-day Florida campaign swing.

Dozens of starry-eyed Republican faithful and some of South Florida's wealthiest political elite joined Gov. Charlie Crist, U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez and other Republican dignitaries in greeting the vice presidential nominee at the exclusive Boca Raton Resort and Club.

"All the heavyweights were there, it was electric," said event participant Yvonne Boice, president of the Boca Raton Republican Club. "I really truly feel she can be classified as the female Ronald Reagan."

"She's a rock star, and tonight she showed it," said Sid Dinerstein, chairman of the Palm Beach County Republican Party.

"If you turn on the news tonight when you get home, you're gonna see that, yah, this is another woeful day in the market, and the other side just doesn't understand -- no!" she said at an afternoon fundraiser at the home of mutual fund giant Jack Donahue. "Especially in a time like this, you don't propose to increase taxes. The phoniest claim in a campaign that's full of them is that Barack Obama is going to cut your taxes."

Of course, Obama never promised to cut taxes for people at $10,000-a-plate lunches in air-conditioned tents on waterfront compounds. And the crowd -- among them New York Jets owner Woody Johnson -- reacted without applause to Palin's Joe Six-Pack lines. After they didn't strike up the usual "Drill, baby, drill" or "USA" chants, Palin, rattled, read hurriedly through the rest of her speech.

McNasty whined about.

7. ok, I admit it
every time she talks about the heels and taking off the gloves, David Rose's tune "The Stripper" goes through my head

I get this image of her strutting back and forth in those heels and a top hat and nothing else...

it is not appealing, mind you; I am not moaning like Rich Lowry, but I can't help picturing it

Have her getting out of a car with no underwear on moment. McCain has sunk so low I really wouldn't put it past him to try this.

8. Thing is
We were in a time like this in 1993 (I know - I was just out of college and there were no jobs to be had anywhere). And we did raise taxes (slightly) on the wealthy - without a single Republican vote. The Republicans screamed to the high heavens that we had made a huge mistake, and just wait they warned, you'll see that we bought ourselves a one-way ticket into a deep recession.

What followed?

17. I got hate mail for my LTTE back in 06 for saying essentially what you just did.
The hate note was all about an imagined sexual encounter between me and Bill Clinton, crudely written on a scrap of paper. I was tempted to take it to my local police station but I just decided to throw it in the trash where it belonged and get it out of my house...

9. OMG, she's whipping up them up to abuse the press, too! Look at this part -
Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

These rallies of hers are turning into full-fledged hate rallies. This is just unacceptable. She relishes this - you can see the enjoyment on her face when she launches into her tirades. I cannot believe this is going on at presidential election rallies.

:grr:

20. At least the rich right wingers are acting on behalf of their greed.
The poor right wingers are acting only to sate their warped perception of "injustice." :(

14. Did anybody see any "Joe-Six Packs"
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 07:36 AM by olegramps
This is what has puzzled me since the campaign for the Destruction of the Middle Class was launched by none other than Reagan, the former president of the Screen Actor's Guild. I listen to working class people, those people that Sarah refers to as Joe-Six Packers, endorse the Republicans and call Obama racial names. The fund raisers hosted by the people, who actually control the party, wouldn't be caught dead actually inviting some guy with dirty finger nails to one of their $25,000 a plate parties even if he could somehow come up with the entrance fee to mingle with the elite. I am really sorry for all the union people who have seen their jobs out-sourced primarily because of their ignorant fellow workers who willingly engaged in their own destruction. It is a shame that the good have to suffer along with the ignorant jerks. It is too bad that we can't have the type of justice that Jesus talked about in letting the weeds grow-up with the wheat and during the harvest time gather up and save the wheat and gather the weeds to be burned. Unfortunately, we all have to suffer except, of course, the elite. If it is any consolation, He also assured that it would be easier for a camel to get through the eye of the needle, than for a rich man to get to heaven. (By the way of interest, He was referring to a certain small passage in the walls surrounding Jerusalem that was referred to as the eye of a needle.)

her supporters started going after the media who arrived to cover the event. One supporter told an African American sound man to, "Sit down, boy"!!! If these are her supporters, she can have them!

24. Last night on Rachel's show, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (sp) said...
... that the Republicans had planted Palin in thick right wing areas where Dems dare not go. lol Her 'campaigning' was a show, so of course she looked great. There was no one there to say she didn't.
