yeah, and we should be upset that Obama use to attend church where Rev. Wright preached. This Falwell nut doesn't fall far from the legacy of his dad Jerry Falwell Sr.

an Falwell's University Tip Virginia To McCain?

by Barbara Bradley Hagerty

“We never told them how to vote. ... We just talked about the fact that Virginia was right on the fence and could go either way — and that they could become known as the college that elected a president if the numbers came down just right.”
Jerry Falwell Jr., chancellor of Liberty University

Morning Edition, October 6, 2008 · On Sept. 10, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. delivered a high-minded message to the students at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. The son of the late evangelical leader spoke of the students' civic responsibility to vote. Then he made an announcement.

"We are planning to cancel classes on Election Day," he said, his voice instantly drowned out by wild cheering. "Now I know what you care about," he observed, laughing.

It's part of a grand strategy to get Liberty's 10,000 students to vote in Virginia. The university will bus students to the polls, stage an all-day concert complete with food, and lift curfew so they can watch the results on a giant-screen TV.

For the past 44 years, Virginia has been a reliably Republican state. But this year, the presidential race is a tossup. Polls put Democrat Barack Obama slightly ahead of Republican John McCain.

1. But allowing union members four hours off on election day is "creeping socialism"
Right?

:sarcasm:

Nobody likes Falwell Jr. or his ways out side of that Church.

This will back fire on them. Alot of people are sick of how the Falwell's try to run lynchburg.

15. Yes even if you live off Campus, and if you catch someone doing
"unchristian" things, you are honor bound to tell on them. Weird right?
The funny thing is my friends call Liberty the gay Capital of Lynchburg
It's where my friend Charles gets all his men

18. All of the fundy colleges have very restrictive rules
My guidance counsellor convinced me to do a tour of Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA. The one thing I can say is it was the most beautiful campus you'll ever see. It was in the hills surrounded with trees.

But that was about the only really nice thing I could say about Messiah. The rules were very represessive to the point that what I did off-campus, if I was caught breaking those rules, could affect my college career. Plus the fact that I had to take one religion class each semester I felt took away from me actually studying for my regular degree. The college I went to, Lebanon Valley College, also had religion class requirements (It's a Methodist owned college) but the requirements were part of the liberal college curriculum which says I had to take 6 credits of Religion and/or Philosphy before graduating. So even if you didn't want to take religion you could go the Philosphy route instead.

4. well, it's a start...
Here's hoping they decided to cancel classes for good. There'll be that much fewer creationist idiots running around pretending to have a college education.

6. They probably instructed them to create rolling riots
in polling places throughout Virginia to prevent voters from casting ballots.

VA for McCain.

9. what else do they plan on doing?
I'm thinking they'll probably celebrate by wearing pointy hats, and doing a creative landscape lighting and human tree ornament bible study party.

They're not voting for McCain. They're voting against Obama. Kind of like some of us in reverse.

For what it's worth, ANY time I see an employee CV or resume cross my desk that has a divinity or religious school affiliation (and I don't mean schools like Gonzaga), I won't consider them. My past experience is they make awful employees - irrational, poor social skills, bad team players, not worth looking at twice for a job in the real world.

13. Just so you know that all religious schools are not created equal
I'm a graduate of Lebanon Valley College which is owned by the Methodist Church. Trust me, we weren't even in the minor leagues of ridiculousness that you'd fine at a Liberty University.

12. This only has an impact if their students didn't vote in previous elections
And presumably their student body did vote before in numbers somewhat comparable to those of other colleges. After all, students at other colleges manage to vote without classes being canceled, if they're otherwise motivated to do so.

So the number of additional votes for McCain that this stunt brings is probably negligible.

14. These are college kids - probably at least half of them couldn't vote before
But I would have to assume that schools like VaTech and UVa have strong support for Obama and can counter this move.

17. In addition to lifting the curfew,
will they lift the ban on swearing? They are going to be so disappointed.

The "Are you a Christian?" question sounds like a rhetorical question my Baptist mother would ask me over the prospect of a relatively minor transgression.
