McCain's polling is tanking. He is either too stubborn to
re-examine what he's not doing well and make adjustments, or he has no clue to begin with what the problem is.

Shazzam, folks.

7. Wait - McCain's a Maverick?
Bret or Bart Maverick?
Isn't James Garner his brother?

He seems pretty old to have been in that movie, but if you say so...

(Maybe he was in the TV series in the '60's)

Just a ramblin', gamblin' man, you becha!

4. It's the economy.
There's nothing he can say or do to stop the slide. The only support for the GOP ticket right now is for Sara Palin. McCain is a sideshow. If it weren't for her and the evangelicals McCain would be down at least another 10 points in the polls if not more. The Republican Party is now just a front for the American evangelical movement because without them, they're not much bigger then the Libertarians.

pretty much equivalent to the klan in the 60's, in the last throes of clinging to their hatreds as they go down for the third time

6. Actually, I think he's examined the situation and determined that his only chance...
is to fall back on the old Republican tactics of attack ads and negative politics. They've worked before, of course.

The problem for McCain is that it doesn't appear that they are likely to work this time.

8. Perhaps he's pinning all his hopes on the GOP vote fraud machine
Reports abound of nefarious activities already going on with newly registered Dems being challenged, successfully in many cases, and who knows what else they have in their bag of tricks. The media keeps showing us polling that indicates a closer race than most of us truly believe, and perhaps this is so that they can have some measure of street cred for another stolen election. The GOP has successfully stolen two previous elections, so with a proven track record like that I cannot imagine that there would not be increased activities in this election cycle. Hopefully I'm completely wrong, but I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling that we won't be duped once again.

9. There's likely to be some attempt to steal it but with the dramatic shift

toward Obama these past several days, it would become a glaring day-light theft under full cameras.

They can get away with it in a squeaker, but not a blow-out.

15. I'm not so sure. Who would challenge them?
They had proof that the Ohio central computer for the 2004 vote was switched over to an RNC server for a couple hours after midnight. Prior to the switch Kerry was ahead, but after the RNC server switched the tally back to the Ohio server Bush was ahead. That seems pretty blatant to me and yet it went unchallenged.

The Pivotal Ohio vote in 2004: Who did the counting?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_josh_mit_070429_the_pivotal_ohio_vot.htm

On the night of 2-3 November, 2004, the computer designated to count Ohio votes was cut out of the loop. Its web address was diverted to a private company in Chattanooga, TN, named SMARTech.

It’s easy to ‘impersonate’ someone else’s website. This is a common ruse used in conjunction with emails that ‘phish’ for your financial information. But such scams can be detected by inspecting the address bar at the top of most browsers. For example, the screen may look just like Washington Mutual’s login for bank customers, but the address is not http://WaMu.com, but instead points to a site (in India!) labeled only as http://202.71.146.148/.s/.wamusk/index.php.

The web redirection on Election Night of 2004 went a step beyond this: Not only did the official website of the Ohio Department of State look just right, but it had the right address: http://election.sos.state.oh.us. Any citizen or press service looking for real time election results from the state of Ohio would have been directed here. In every sense, this SMARTech site became the official vote tabulation for the state of Ohio.

If the name SMARTech sounds vaguely familiar, it is because the same web server, run by the same company, was in the news last month. It is the site that handled the email accounts for White House aides who did not want their communications to be subject to Congressional scrutiny. When Congress set out to subpoena the emails of Karl Rove, they had disappeared, along with 6 million other email messages. The entire staff had been communicating secretly, illegally, subverting the system that had been set up by Congress in the Presidential Records Act of 1978.

SMARTech leases computer servers to the Republican National Committee, and the 12-digit ISP address to which the Ohio Department of State was diverted for the 2004 vote count falls between two ranges known to be leased to the RNC. This raises the suspicion that it was an RNC computer, impersonating the state of Ohio computer, that performed the official vote tabulation in 2004. This diversion is so unusual (and brazen!) a ruse, that it is inconceivable that it happened without Blackwell’s explicit consent.

The Ohio web site was showing Kerry ahead before midnight. Then the server went down for 90 minutes, and when it came back up, Bush had a commanding lead.

12. There is nothing he CAN do at this point.. so he's just doing everything..
People have made up their minds.. people have lost money... people have no homes and healthcare.

McCain can't fix that.. and probably doesn't even care to if he could.. he just wants his rich buddies to get their money back by having the stock market go back up with more de-regulation.

McCain is doing what he always does when he doesn't get his way.. he's throwing a 72 year old temper tantrum.
