Is it possible that the McCain campaign has a trick up their sleeves?
That while they've let everyone think that all McCain is going to do is attack Obama tonight, he's going to come out with a real economic plan and try to catch the Obama folks off-guard?

I've overestimated the intelligence and savvy of these people for months, but I still wonder if the last few days of unrelenting ham-handedness on their part might have been a diversion.

We'll see.

1. If he does, it will be Obama's plan.
So far all they have come up with is refried ideas from Obama's camp.
He may take Obama's plan and rearrange the wording to try and make it look his idea.
I mean, what else does he have?

2. While I agree repukes can't be trusted,

any worthwhile economic plan on McCain's part would involve going up against his base.
That's not going to happen.

4. I'm sure Obama's campaign has planned for all events.
He and his team are very savvy.

5. This has been suggested, and it could be true
I sincerely hope Obama is prepared for such a possibility.

McCain's mention of 'turning the page on the economy' has been construed as indicating the launching of the negative 'character assassination' tactics we've been seeing since the weekend, but it could be foretelling the unveiling of a new economic plan.

If such is the case, McCain will have created the illusion that he is thinking ahead, leaving Obama to quickly propose his own plan.

Again, I really hope the Obama campaign has considered this possibility and are ready to respond or, even better, to pre-empt.

8. I DO NOT think that he does... he never planed to have to fight...
In McEgos mind, he thought that there was no reason for him to have to fight. In his mind, he was a "War hero" that has a great record (if you pick and choose) and he is running against an uppity black man.

I am telling you when Obama won for the Dems the McFreaks were having a party, they thought it was a dine deal.

9. The only economic plan that repubs know is cutting taxes..
especially for the wealthy. It would shock me if they came up with anything substantively different than that. All Obama has to do to counter this is to point out that McCain's plan is not much different than Bush's plan, and see where that got us?

is about the same as OJ Simpson catching the "real killers".

11. McCain thinks he has a right to be president.
I doubt he ever considered that he might lose.
I also don't think he plans very far ahead, and I believe the smear Obama message he is using now IS his secret plan.

12. McShame's economic plan
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 08:52 AM by northernlights
"I was a POW.
He's going to raise your taxes.
I'm going to lower taxes.
Did I mention, I was a POW?"

Don't forget McCain's health plan.

"I'm going to give you a $5,000 tax break to pay for your health insurance."

Hmmmm....does that mean you get $5,000 *off* what you would pay in fed taxes. Or does that mean $5,000 is exempt from taxe. So if you have $100K taxable income (keeping the #s simple) you only pay taxes on $95k? Well that should pay for a week or two of insurance for a family of 4....hmmmmm, better not look to closely at that one, either.

"Did I mention, I was a POW?"

13. I don't think he has an economic plan. Phil Graham's economic worldview is the only
one he knows. The tenor of the negative, personal attack political ads that are airing in Minnesota, demonstrate that he has nothing to run on but "Obama doesn't support our active combat troops" ads. If he had something remarkable, he would be touting it already. Given his "suspending his campaign" gimmick and his performance during the "crisis" meetings, indicates that he doesn't even understand what is even going on, so I guess I'd be surprised his he has anything other than generalities and "tax cut" rhetoric.

16. It's possible, even likely that they have many tricks up their sleeves.
The question is whether the tricks will work. So far their average is not good.

Palin is sort of a trick candidate--she's certainly a one-trick pony--but she's not working. The whole calling off the debate/not calling off the debate thing was another trick, which did not work. Whatever trick they're contemplating, it will not work this time either, is my guess.

As for them coming up with a real economic plan: they can't. They don't have anyone on their team who knows how to address this problem because their team is the one that created it. They have no idea what to do to save the economy so all they're going to trot out it lower taxes, cut spending, job creation, blah blah blah.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

Maybe they'll sell us golden policies with coverage for everything, including massage and cosmetic surgery, for $25 a month, and then six months down the road.... BAILOUT !!
