Catalog Bush's acceptance speech lies here
I'll start with one that really hit me:

"In all these proposals, we seek to provide not just a government program, but a path - a path to greater opportunity, more freedom, and more control over your own life."

More control over your own life? Is that why they're banning partial birth abortion, to give women and doctors who need that option more control over their lives? Is that why they're trying to figure out how to tie welfare payments to marriage? Is that why they're trying to write a definition of marriage into the Constitution? Is that why they're trying to outlaw personal bankruptcy, overtime pay, group negotation on drug prices, labor unions? Is that why they force reservists who finished their contracted terms in Iraq back to Iraq? (Etc., etc., etc.)

1. The "lawsuits cost jobs" lie.
"My plan begins with providing the security and opportunity of a growing economy. We now compete in a global market that provides new buyers for our goods, but new competition for our workers. To create more jobs in America, America must be the best place in the world to do business. To create jobs, my plan will encourage investment and expansion by restraining federal spending, reducing regulation, and making tax relief permanent. To create jobs, we will make our country less dependent on foreign sources of energy. To create jobs, we will expand trade and level the playing field to sell American goods and services across the globe. And we must protect small business owners and workers from the explosion of frivolous lawsuits that threaten jobs across America."

:wtf:

3. Helping American workers find better jobs *cough*iftheymovetoIndia*cough*
"Another priority in a new term will be to help workers take advantage of the expanding economy to find better, higher-paying jobs. In this time of change, many workers want to go back to school to learn different or higher-level skills. So we will double the number of people served by our principal job training program and increase funding for community colleges. I know that with the right skills, American workers can compete with anyone, anywhere in the world."

4. The "women suing their OB/GYNs is ruining America's health care" lie
"As I have traveled our country, I have met too many good doctors, especially OB-GYNS, who are being forced out of practice because of the high cost of lawsuits."

5. this line pissed me off...
...and it's probably the least important lie in the speech, in terms of issues, but it got me hot under the collar because I just read what Kerry really said the other day:

"There are some problems with this claim. If you say the heart and soul of America is found in Hollywood, I'm afraid you are not the candidate of conservative values"

He DIDN'T SAY THAT. He said something like "every one of these people demonstrates in some way the heart and soul of America" (bad paraphrase, but you know the quote) and that's true. It pisses me off because it epitomizes the twisting of words that is so common with this liar and the people running his campaign. And it's just another example of character assassination and I HATE IT.

6. That line stood out for me too. I knew it was a flat out LIE.

What puny minded little BASTARDS they are. It's of the same school, this lie, as Cheney's riff on "sensitive wars"--a petty picking apart of language to find the worst possible intepretation to put on it. I HATE that. :grr:

...and it reeeeeeally irritates me when stuff like that goes unchallenged. There will be people out there who are uninformed who will believe he really said it. UGH!

9. Another one like that was the "87 billion" lie.
:grr:

We have a "president" who looooooves to get right down in the shit and get it all into and over his hands. His father was like that too. And then they have the gall to pretend they're above it all!

7. The blatant "we will empower teachers" lie.
"We are insisting on accountability, empowering parents and teachers, and making sure that local people are in charge of their schools."

Empowering teachers? Teaching to the test is power?
