My opinion: They can't call Obama a "ni**er," so "terrorist" is the next best thing.

Boy I hope there's major blowback about this. These republicans are full of hate.

5. Barracuda is a loose cannon, she's getting more and more out of control..
it's getting the point where she thinks she is the campaign and she's driving. She'll slip up eventually.

6. Yep. "radical" implies a crazy white leftist. They use terrorist to imply...
any non-white person.

They're terrified; all the chest-thumping means nothing. They're terrified of everyone not like them and this world is entirely too colorful for them now.

I say it makes them very dangerous and not to be dismissed. Sure, many are just bullyish talkers (O'Reilly, Limbaugh)...others act on the ignorance and hatred (the Tennessee Unity Church incident).

8. The label of "terrorist" on innocent people is...
..which I think is what you mean.

Of course real terrorists are terrorists, but the republicans think anyone who is brown is a potential terrorist.

20. Exactly. It released them from their fear of "political correctness"
Because of 911, they feel they are "allowed" to hate this group. All through the 90s they whined about "PC" which meant they were called on it when they said something racist. It was getting to them, poor babies. :sarcasm: 911 came along and they were delighted. Now they could hate and feel superior and no one could call them on PC issues, because they could just sneer, "These people are trying to kill you."

16. It was reported on KO show that the AP stated that there was a subtext that
was supporting "the other" = covert racism. Yeah, every now and then, even the whorish M$M must be honest. Sort of like how slot machines hook gambling addicts (rewards are unpredictable).

I mean, referring to your presidential opponent as a "terrorist". That's just crazy.

Obama is a "terrorist" who was president of the Harvard Law Review. A "terrorist" who taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. A "terrorist" who delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004 and was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote. A "terrorist" who helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel.

This "terrorist" also received almost 18 million votes from American citizens, including me, in the primaries. Are we all terrorists now?

14. That is a very good paraphrase of Lee Atwater's description of the republican Southern Strategy
Bob Herbert, a New York Times columnist, reported a 1981 interview with Lee Atwater, published in Southern Politics in the 1990s by Prof. Alexander P. Lamis, in which Lee Atwater discussed politics in the South:

You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger." By 1968 you can't say "nigger"—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is blacks get hurt worse than whites.

Herbert wrote in the same column, "The truth is that there was very little that was subconscious about the G.O.P.'s relentless appeal to racist whites. Tired of losing elections, it saw an opportunity to renew itself by opening its arms wide to white voters who could never forgive the Democratic Party for its support of civil rights and voting rights for blacks.

17. Not exactly a revelation.
But your statement is correct and it gets it's fifth R.

What you are now seeing is the condensing of the radical right support for Palin. The moderates and undecideds have evaporated significantly from Republicult rallies leaving the hard-core haters. As time goes on, as their candidate's chances recede, as overall tolerance for her running mate sloughs off to be replaced by impatience and disgust, you will see the crowds get even uglier. When they come together as they did Monday, as they are whipped into a rage by Palin, you will hear of more shouted threats and slurs. You will read of more reports of media intimidation. You will witness more outright racism.

I expect violence to follow soon.

22. Well, a Palin supporter apparently called a black media person(sound man) a ni**er, right before
telling him to "Sit down, boy":

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7341782

Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

26. Many of us predicted months ago that all of the ugliness would
come out in all of its "glory", once the campaigns got up to speed in the fall - I think things will continue to get worse, sad as that may be.
