Photos from the Disruption of Bush's Speech - including protest banner
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 12:30 AM by VolcanoJen
I never saw this angle on tv, that's for sure:

Unidentified protesters removed from the floor during Bush's nomination speech; I think the woman in the first two photos is the same... who are the guys in "W" hats?

6. I feel so much safer
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 12:36 AM by kerryin2004
Knowing a protester could get into the convention.. What if she was a terrorist and had anthrax or something? I remember when Yousef sneaked a bomb in a plane after the world trade center and all he used was some chemicals and a timex watch.. None of it would be detected by any airport security even today. He killed some man, but was unhappy that it didn't take down the plane.. Luckily he never was able to carry out taking out 12 planes with the substance only stronger, over the ocean, the Clinton admin caught him before he got this plan to go. But whsat if that was a yousef type in the audience?? Yeah, they have really made us all safer, yet they can't even keep out these protesters..

I suspect the W hat wearers are secret service, blending in with the crowd by wearing the hats..

7. I was shocked at how they were handling her
Now that I know they were wearing "W hats", I'm even more horrified.

They handled her like a group of thugs or henchmen as if she had been stabbing conventioneers, rather than what... just yelling?

9. Isn't this just unbelievable? These photos, vs the backdrop of...
... Bush's speech "afterglow" we're currently being subjected to by the "news" networks?

Isn't this a big story? At least two women infiltrate the RNC on the evening of the President's nomination speech, one carrying onehelluva big-ass banner? How does that happen? Why isn't anyone on TV talking about it?

What a week. I mean, wow, what a week.

...it was all about keeping the masses away from Shrub. Just like the war on terrorism isn't really about fighting terror. I'm amazed these women made it in. The must have had inside help. Hahaha, even some repugs hate the Chimp.

17. I was speaking specifically to the security issue.
I'm very surprised that the media isn't busy discussing the obvious security breach that occurred during a major Presidential speech; in fact, I'm reasonably sure that was an unprecedented moment in convention history.

And since the centerpiece of Bush's speech was security, why isn't the media talking about the security failures at MSG this week?

Seems relevant to me.

24. No, these things are PART of the process
Democracy isn't a pretty, ordered affair. We don't all sit down at afternoon tea to discuss our differences - especially when the thugs running the country refuse to acknowledge dissenting views.

Such a wonderful snide comment about disruptive assholes - I seem to remember a khaki-wearing mob in December 2000 that was of the Republican persuasion...

commuter rail so it took about a few hours. It was PACKED at the vigil. All the anti_war vet groups etc, were there. I really don't know how the republicans could have enjoyed themselves because the hostility towards them in the air was INTENSE. There was anti_war stuff hanging out the windows near the Ground Zero Memorial and people walking around with signs that said REPUBLICANS GO HOME!!

33. Great DU "as it happened" thread here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=730942

It was really amazing, jonny! They didn't show the angle, or a close-up of the ensuing scrum. All you heard was shouting and chants of "FOUR MORE YEARS" by the delegates to cover up the shouting of the protesters. It was incredibly obvious to the viewing audience that Bush's speech was being disrupted.

A few minutes later, another protester tried, and the same response was received. Bush did pause for a moment that time.

It truly was an unprecedented moment. It's amazing to me!!

42. See, that's the part that's mindblowing, and interesting, to me.
Who gave those women their delegate floor passes?? Those things are like gold, and if there's one thing Republicans love, it's gold.

Who broke ranks? Who planned this? It's fascinating, and the story is incredibly interesting and unprecedented, and yet the media is pretending like it never, ever happened.

48. Right, and they are keepsakes
If I were a Dem delegate, I'd have my pass framed and on my wall, lickey-split. No way would I give mine up, and if I knew someone didn't want their pass, I'd take it and give it to another Dem back home.

I tend to agree, someone must've broken ranks.

43. Josh Marshall was TWO SEATS AWAY from one of the protesters!!!
www.talkingpointsmemo.com

My watching of the speech was disrupted in a jarring way because I happened to be sitting two seats away from one of the protestors who was hustled out of the arena during the president's speech. An unassuming women had been sitting on our press row for the couple hours prior to the speech. And about half way through out of the corner of my eye I saw a plainclothes police officer lunge in our direction. I looked back to see the woman who -- without my having noticed -- had tossed on a pink slip over her dress and I guess was about to start some sort of chant or statement.

He grabbed her; there was a brief commotion. Other officers rushed in our direction. And then before I could even figure out what was going on, she was gone.

There are some more details to the story, including the journalist sitting next to me, who started yelling at the woman -- or perhaps better to say, aggressively scolding her -- as she was dragged off. But I'll leave that till tomorrow.
