Do you think Obama has a surprise planned for tonight?
I don't mean a game changer necessarily -- that term is used too much -- but something that McCain doesn't see coming. Something that will put Obama on the offensive instead of the defensive.

The other option is that Obama will come out and be his usual calm, cool leader and deflect McCain's attacks while focusing on the economy.

But I think that there's a good chance we'll see both that and an agressive Obama come out. I just can't figure out what the offensive measure will be.

1. He doesn't need one. But he should make sure, if he gets the chance...
...to bring up McCain's mud slinging before McCain has a chance to start. That way it will be stuck in people's minds the entire time McLame is talking.

5. yes, point out early that they're turning to personal attacks b/c they've no ideas to offer
so instead of talking about how to fix the economy, they're talking about some guy Obama is hardly close friends with who did some bad things back when Obama was eight. Say that at the beginning to frame the entire discussion, so that any negative comment McCain makes is part of that pattern.

2. I hope that Obama has good, short answers, shows poise and confidence,
and inspires those watching to believe that he is presidential and that McCain is just a desperate, little man.

3. I think he'll land some zingers. I don't expect any jaw-droppers.
By this I mean, I don't think there will be any "did he just say THAT?"

But yeah, he'll probably needle McCain in some pretty blatant way, and McCain will look foolish with his comeback. Just like the first time.

4. Obama will be cool and calm and will discuss the middle class and the economy
McBush will be snarky, condescending, and will try to subtly bash Obama with the standard Repug talking points. McBush will also flap his flightless little arms and give his weird sideways thumbs up.
