HOT DAMN!!! Sarasota County, Florida NEWS! We've Been Working
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 10:26 AM by ChiciB1
Good Morning,
I have chosen to send Harriet's e-mail to you verbatim because I could not have said it better.
our butts off and it seems to be paying off! For those of you who DON'T KNOW, this is the THE County that Katherine "Cruellla" Harris represented in Congress, this is the County that Christine Jennings lost to Vern Buchanan in 2006 by 369 votes and where 18,500 votes sorta/kinda got LOST!! She fought for over a year to get this over-turned!!

Read email I received below!! THEN READ THE LINK AFTER... MSNBC writes about THIS County!!!!

Once again, Team GoBama 11 has been more than successful. Incredibly, just 16 people made 785 calls in 3 hours. Those of you who participated are to be commended for your determination, seriousness and dedication. Our success is due solely to you and, of course, to our host, Harriet Cowan.

For those of you who did not see Monday's Herald Tribune, once again, I quote verbatim: "Republicans are growing increasingly worried that Barack Obama could become the first Democrat to win Sarasota County since FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT.

And for good reason.

The National Republican Congressional Committee says its most recent internal polling shows the presidential race between Obama and John McCain has narrowed dramatically and is in a dead heat in the 13th Congressional District which includes Sarasota, Hardee and Desoto counties, most of Manatee and part of Charlotte.
The Presidential ballot is a statistical tie--45percent McCain/ 43 percent Obama"

Today's Tribune is even more explicit: "For the third day in a row, a political poll has shown that Democrat Barack Obama is either beating Republican John McCain in the Sarasota area or they are in a tie."

Here's the MSNBC link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26764232/

While I can't confirm, I have heard that Eric Robinson has resigned as head here. I do have pictures of vandalism and hope to post.

People... THIS IS BIG NEWS!!!

Edit to add: I'm not a fan of the vandalism thing. It isn't helpful.

9. Hey, Me Either... But It Happened! I Agree With Robinson, But I Can't
control that! People are fed up! My son-in-law works in the ER at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and yesterday 33 people came in (mostly elderly) and wanted to be admitted for DEPRESSION at Bayside! Bayside is a mental institution here. They are so worried about their financial situation! That was ONLY yesterday. Another person shot himself, don't know prognosis yet!

Sorry to be the one to give this bad news, but I think this is only the TIP of the iceberg! He came home so depressed about this. He works 12 hour shifts and it's getting to him. Both he and my daughter are critical care nurses and are seeing some "scary" stuff!

I consider myself thankful that my husband worked for the phone company and was part of a Union (CWA) and we have better health insurance than many many others. I expect some benefits will be cut, but at least we have the insurance!

The elderly Floridians may NOT be a group McCain can count on for votes! They're SCARED! Sarasota County has an enormous "rich" populace and many celebrities have 2nd homes here. My son works for one... at one time she owned 6 house here and is currently trying to sell 4 of them!!

6. McCain has to win that by 10%
Even a 2% squeaker hurts him bad there.

7. If He WINS Here Many Of Us Say We Will Make NATIONAL NEWS!
Which of course, we already have done. I don't understand why a 2% win hurts him. What am I missing??

I KNOW I'm very tired from all the work we are doing, can't tell you how hectic it's been and we are JUBILANT that he's even close!

Your comments are very welcome, do we need to knock on EVERY SINGLE DOOR?? Went to a doctor yesterday that I've been seeing for many years and he asked ME who I was voting for! He's an Independent and I asked him "why?" He told he's UNDECIDED and I just laughed and said "that's hard for me to believe!" I turned him to Obama and his assistant too!

Anyway, we are working for ALL the local candidates too, ESPECIALLY for Barry Sullivan for Supervisor of Elections! We've gone to so many house parties they know us "personally" and they are all GREAT! Christine Jennings, is fighting so hard, Morgan Bentley is so charismatic even my granddaughter wants to wear one of his shirts to school! I've lived in this county since 1978 and this is the FIRST time I've seen so many Democratic candidates running against Repukes!!

We currently have 22 Democratic candidates running here now, that's ASTOUNDING! We canvassed ALL day Saturday and actually "fixed stupid" with 3 voters! We turned them!! We registered voters who were for Obama, but weren't even REGISTERED! That's how lame past efforts have been here for all these years! Democrats HIDE because they have been intimidated for so long!

Anyway, taking the day off... just worn out, but would like to know about your comment.

Thanks!

8. 2% win in Sarasota
will not offset larger losses in Democratic areas thus McCain loses Florida.
