Somone told me this would be a black and white vote. Every brown skinned brown eyed voter is voting Obama. McCain is playing to the wrong crowd. Preaching to the quier will not win this election. pubbies should have planned to run more minorities up the ladder in their own party to combat an election like this but sadly they did not.i can count on one hand the number of dark eyed republican pundants. after supporting both legal and illegal immigration what else should republicans expect and they did not prepare.

My point is that such misspellings are not evidence of stupidity, and crowing too loudly that Freepers must be idiots because they spell words wrong is probably not that great a strategy, since even perfectly intelligent people on our own side might not be the greatest spellers in the world.

I speak as a college English teacher, an editor and proofreader of others' manuscripts, and a former state spelling bee champion (when I was 9 years old), so I am not just covering my own fanny. The English language is not phonetic, and anyone who has not mastered the intricacies of English spelling by the time he/she is about 10 or 11 years old is not likely ever to do so. But that doesn't mean the person is an idiot.

Two false assumptions here:

1. That putting up a non-White candidate will make people of that candidate's race vote for him or her. I'm not swayed when a candidate is White; I look at the issues. Why do republicans assume that the same wouldn't be true for non-Caucasians. This is a racist attitude that has bled over to being sexist again with the nomination of Sarah Palin in that the McCain campaign expressed hope that they would be able to get female Hillary voters with her - essentially replacing one woman with another like they're interchangeable in the eyes of females, who aren't going to vote their best interests.

2. I met the Latinos who were trotted up on stage at the Republican Convention one night to show Hispanic/Latino support for George W. Bush (they also had a night dedicated to Black support, etc., if you remember). Those Latinos were Mexican nationals from Juarez who were going to college at the University of Texas in El Paso, which has a special program with Juarez, which is just across the border. GOP operatives came to them and asked them if they wanted to participate in a program to learn more about the American political system. They would get free room, board, and travel expenses. So they bussed (not flew) them to Philadelphia, brought them to the convention, and brought them up on stage when George P. (Jeb's son) was speaking. They realized they had been punked but went along with it. One of them showed me a picture of herself on stage looking confused. If they couldn't find an actual Hispanic group to support them (nor a Black one - the director of the Black gospel choir said they only agreed to do it so they could be on TV), they're not going to find large amounts of minorities to run on their ticket.
