The old self described lion, in the winter of his life, is watching as his last best chance at immortality recedes into the distance.
He must be reflecting about 1999, 2000 and he must be asking himself how could this be happening again. He played by the rules in 2000, even campaigned for that turd of a man and he still had to fight tooth and nail for his party's nomination.
I guess he was just a little, key word little, to maverickey for the party regulars...
He won by default as the others just faded back into the darkness where they all belonged...
Comparing him to King Richard does an injustice to King Richard but he is a very tragic figure. One is almost, almost tempted to feel a sort of sorrow for him but pity does him more justice. He turned out to be a pitiful man whose whole career was based on an image that couldn't hold up to the light of day...
