He read them badly and stumbled through fragments of the speeches he's been making. I don't think McCain's rap is as centered on the actual needs of voters like Obama's has been. It's a mix of grumbling about the past and personal, petty attacks.

Obama has an effortless repertoire which is a complete digest of a comprehensive domestic agenda which ranges from health care to economics, from energy to national defense. It's something he's been consistent in presenting before audiences throughout this campaign. It's centered on the voters themselves.

McCain won't sell tonight.

1. I think everyone's built McCain and his success at town halls up at their
peril. Obama can think on his feet; McCain can, as you say, ramble on about his talking points. I think the difference will be obvious and matter.

4. Where has McCain shown that he's good at this format?
I'd like to see that. I haven't seen anything from him to show that he's any good at open formats.

6. I think you are right.
Obama is actually trying to answer the questions in his own town halls. I have watched many of them during the primaries. He was not just trying to sell his talking points.

2. I am more in line with this point of view.
I think Obama has been much better in these formats. Obama has answered many more questions in this format than McCain. McCain has been pretty rough when off script. Let the media say McCain has the advantage.

7. McCain will have plants in the audience he can see. Those plants can cue him.
Or ask all his questions.

12. McCain won't gain any more advantage from the questions asked
. . . than in the way he answers them.

I don't know what the make up of this audience will be, but most voters who come to these events don't react well to the silliness. McCain is all silliness.

8. Exactly what I think.
McDouche gets really rambly when he tries to go off the cuff and a town hall meeting is pretty much just that.

Expect McDouch to stick a lot of his stump speech in there, no matter what the question is. Hey, he probably figures if it worked for Sarah, why not him?

15. Not to sound ageist, but McCain is very "Leave it to Beaver" sounding
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 05:29 PM by Democat
I realize that many of the voters, and many of my fine fellow DU members as well, are as old as McCain himself, but his corny word choices and 100 year old stories just make him seem very much about the past. Obama seems very much about the future. I hope that I'm not the only one who feels that way and sorry if it offends anyone.

In this format, I think McCain may have even more chance to sound out of touch and just plain old.
