"He scares me"
I am hearing that more and more often from repugs who wont vote for BO. In my mind, its code for "he's black". The latest was on NPR this afternoon from a voter in Indiana. Makes me furious. When is the last time that anyone said that a "white" candidate "scared" them.

4. Exactly... Palin & McCain would scare the hell out of any thinking
person--black, white, purple or whatever.... They certainly do me.

9. But McCain gives you reason to be scared.
An elderly, tempermental man with post-traumatic stress, a history of supporting nearly-random military action, and the launch codes to the nuclear missiles? That should scare any rational person shitless.

5. Sarah Palin scares me.
But I agree, the republicans are using this word instead of the word they really want to use. And I think it is a much cruder one than the word "black."

7. The retired Marine officer I talked to last weekend said it about McCain!
He said he fears that at the slightest provocation he thinks McCain will over-react militarily.

I say it every day about Cheney.

Obama "scares" people because the country hasn't known him that long and he doesn't have the clear, easy-to-read track record a governor might have. Then there are all those articles interviewing his former law students who said they didn't know where he stood on issues. That's what folks mean by a 'blank slate'.

10. McCain and Palin scare the white right off me!
I guess all white people are supposed to be the same too, huh? If that's the case, I'm officially turning in my skin. If that's the case, I'm sick to death of the thought that I share a skin color with those two hateful, warmongering LIARS!

13. Actually people said that about Gore and Kerry
Though for BO, some of them are doubtlessly afraid of his skin color/"musliness", some of them are probably talking about the common puke fears that they've been trained for. You know the national security stuff, evil socialists, blah blah :eyes:

Pukes are a fearful bunch of cowards.

21. Reminds me of a great song, "So afraid of the Russians"
From the Reagan years, by a band called Made for TV.

I'd Like to feed the children
Find a cure for disease
Rebuild the cities
and Plant a lot of trees

I'd like to help the sick
Build factories
Give money to students
hospitals and galleries

But, I'm afraid of the Russians
I can't sleep at night
So afraid of the Russians
Afraid we've got to fight

I'd like to go to space
Clean up rivers and lakes
Put everyone to work
whatever it takes

But, I'm afraid of the Russians
I can't sleep at night
So afraid of the Russians
Afraid we've got to fight
They've got ships at sea
They've got missiles in the air
Tanks on the border of Europe
and spies everywhere

and spies everywhere
spies everywhere
spies everywhere

14. My brother use to say he scares him because he's too charismatic...
Like other leaders who ended up being dictators. But since my brother is a racist, I think it's something else. Doesn't matter though. He'll vote for him anyway because he hates Republicans and is worried about his social security.

Last time I talked to him, though, he seemed to be trusting Obama a little more. He's a strong Catholic and is trying to talk all of his acquaintances in the church to vote for Obama. He's trying to convince them that even though McCain might be anti-abortion, he's also pro-war and that's worse in his mind. He isn't having a lot of luck but is still working on it.

And I don't hang out with racists (or so I thought). I've been beating it into him how bad McCain will screw him. A few more beatings are in order, but I think he's going to do the right thing.

24. Most criticism of Obama is weird and vague.
I rarely hear people say things like, "I don't think it's a good idea to raise taxes on the richest people" or "His health care policy is badly thought out!" or even "He's just another tax and spend liberal!" :eyes:

Most of what I hear is "He scares me" (why?) or "He's not what this country needs" (specifics?) or "I just don't like him" (what about him??).

Sometimes you wish they'd come right out and say, "I'm just not ready for a black president, because I don't know any black people and they scare me."
