1. This night wouldn't have been possible before now---
to go from listening to the speech with Air America and DU, to Jon Stewart's incredible show, to Kerry's speech on MSNBC was amazing. In other years, I would have had to avoid the speech or suffer it in misery with my sister over the phone--but the democratic "support groups" that have evolved over the last few years have really changed things. Thanks DU and AAR and MoveOn...and everyone else who has contributed to this great change! It really is remarkable.

5. When McClain said (Re: Zell & Kerry) "I think he must have shot his dog."
I thought I'd die. Totally unexpected.

8. I didn't see Zell's speech...
...but geez, TDS had me absolutely rolling last night. That episode is a true classic. My fairly apolitical husband watched it with me and was saying "Oh my GOD" over and over again at the spectacle that was Zell on CNN and Hardball. God, what a riot.

9. I'd rather poke myself in the eye than watch Zell, but ...
... when Jon said that the Zellster was "batshit", I nearly fell off the couch laughing!

13. The last two nights have been Must See
Honestly, Zell's speech, the interviews on CNN & MSNBC, then the two best Daily Shows.

I'm gonna miss all this fun. Anyone want to invite the Repugs to Madison (WI) and do it all over again?

15. I thought it might have been one of the best ever, too.
They sprang like a coiled snake on Zell Miller. Then McCain heaped even more contempt on top.

I think it finally eclipsed what I previously thought was the show's finest moment, which was Moe Rocca's wrap-up of some silly piece about the desert.

Rocca: Well Craig, it's good being in the desert. 'Cause in the desert, you can remember your name, 'cause there ain't no one for to give you no shame.

Kilborn: Nah nah naaaah nah-nah nah nah nah...

6. Exactly. It's all just "woooords"

Here's the middle segment from last night's 'The Daily Show'. It skewers Bush's 3 1/2 years of posturing.

Windows Media format; 5.2MB, 4 1/2 minutes

Right-click, and "Save as...", and prepare to smile.

18. Best laugh I've had in weeks.
I usually forget to tune in to The Daily Show or even to tape it, but I was studiously avoiding the RNC and figured TDS would be the best thing for my mood. And oh, how richly I was rewarded for that thought. The neighbors must have heard the barking laughter coming from my apartment.

You see, I had heard some of the audio of Miller's speech, read bits of it and of course seen the still photos. But I had NO IDEA how completely deranged Miller came off on camera. Holy crap!

It's sweet to think that he has made a complete ass of himself in front of comedy lovers everywhere. That footage will get more exposure through the talk shows than it will in the usual news coverage.
