She's already being attacked.

3. Well she IS a gossip writer...
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 08:51 AM by Richardo
From Amazon.com: Kitty Kelley is the internationally acclaimed bestselling author of Jackie Oh!; Elizabeth Taylor: The Last Star; His Way: The Unauthorized Biography of Frank Sinatra; Nancy Reagan: The Unauthorized Biography; and The Royals.

Not a lot of weight there.

7. And Jerome Corsi's A Historian?
That what O'Neill actually said. Sheesh.

Kitty Kelley writes trash, but trash that sells. She's the one that got the rumors of Nancy Raygun horoscope and boinking Sinatra into the news at the time.

I hear the book is based, in part, from information provided by Sharon Bush...Neil's ex-wife (the real shithead of this family)...but supposedly also picks at some of the stuff J. Hatfield had come up with in Native Son.

I don't get a feeling on this one. I hear the book is loaded with lots of "dish" and dirt on this detestable family, and this isn't my type of reading material...but this lady has a market and it'll be interesting how the media plays it.

If there's some real good stuff in it, people are gonna wanna read it...Bush family like it or not...and the media will have to go along or procede at your rating's peril.

Now with Kobe a done deal, Peterson bogged down, Jacko still months from his freakshow...maybe a good Bush sex scandal/book could get a lot of tongues wagging.

4. You don't understand our present
day corporate media. Anti-Kerry books get the full 24/7 coverage. Anything anti-Bush or even legitimately critical, it gets the gloss over, i.e Bush's lack of military record vs Kerry actual military record.

9. kitty kelley is far, far more than a gossip writer
she has backup source after backup source for everything she writes. she has never been successfully sued. she is, actually, a talented investigative reporter who is brilliant at gaining entrance into peoples' lives. (well, from the gossip I've heard in the publishing world, she performs like the best espionage agents -- by insinuating herself and gaining trust and keeping her ears open.)

---------------

from the cover flap of THE FAMILY:

"Number One bestselling author and investigative biographer Kitty Kelley has closely examined the lives of Jacqueline Onassis, Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra, and the British Royal family. Now the First Lady of unauthorized biography reckons with the first family of the United States--and the result is at once a rich and shocking history and a very human portrait of the world's most powerful dynasty.

An important polemic on wealth, power, and class in America, The Family is rich in texture, probing in its psychological insight, revealing in its political and financial detail, and stunning in the patterns that emerge and expose the Bush dynasty as it has never before been exposed. Ms. Kelley takes us back to the origins of the family fortune in the Ohio steel industry at the turn of the last century, through the oil deals and international business associations that have maintained and increased their wealth over the past hundred years. The book leads us through Prescott Bush's first entrée into government at the state level in 1950s' Connecticut, to George Herbert Walker Bush's long and winding road to the White House, to his son's quick sweep into the same office. Along the way, we see the complex relationships the Bushes have had with the giants of the century--Eisenhower, Nixon, Joseph McCarthy, Kissinger, Reagan, Clinton--as well as the often ruthless methods used to realize their goals.

Perhaps most impressive--and surprising--is the way the book delves behind the obsessively protected public image into the family's intimate private lives: the matriarchs, the mistresses, the marriages, the divorces, the jealousies, the hypocrisies, the golden children, and the black sheep.

At a crucial point in American history, Kitty Kelley is the one person to finally tell all about the family that has, perhaps more than any other, defined our role in the modern world. This is the book the Bushes don't want you to read. This is The Family.

10. Why Is What She Writes "Trash"? It's TRUE
As others have said here, she's never been successfully sued BECAUSE it's true, BECAUSE, like any world class publishing phenom, she has a staff of researchers, with every item at least double sourced. Perhaps the "trash" comes from what her subjects DO.

As for "what it's about" - it's the fun and dirty BEHIND part of "American Dynasty" - going back a hundred yrs or more, covering the whole B.F.E.E., not just Sharon BUSH.

I don't have the link handy, but the-oldest-person-named-"Cindy" (ADAMS), another gossipteer, a wingnut who pals around the cocktail circuit with BOTH the CUOMOs and the PATAKIs, said last week that there are FIVE (5) major bombshells in the book, and Shrub's "missing year".

I can't wait. Amazon will be too slow in this case. B&N's the way to go.

12. She WILL get on Oprah. This book WILL sell.

Who knows the outcome? When F911 was selling out, I thought - finally the people will storm the WHite_House with pitchforks and torches.

I don't know what it will take. All the republicans I hear from, know the talking points - have them memorized. And they're casual political observers. How does that happen?
