"That one" is McCain's Maccaca moment
It reveals the same congenital insensitivity and cluelessness ( and some might say inherent and unrecognized racism)

Demeaning. Dehumanizing. And far more revealing of the utterer than the subject.

2. That was really, really bad. I don't know if he was trying to be HRC on SNL
referring to Fey's Palin or what, but it was really disrespectful. More and more I believe he is a racist.

very condensending to the black questioners in the audience. His lack of control is unbelievable.

13. Obama's campaign is pushing the story according to NBC
They sent out at least a half a dozen emails on it to reporters already, and that was like an hour ago that they said that on NBC.

17. I haven't seen the debate yet, but wondered if this is what he was trying to refer to...
Since, as Thom Hartmann notes, the McCain campaign has been calling Obama "The One" to fuel the "code words" of the Christian wingbats to call him the antichrist. I'll have to watch the debate on my DVR now to get the context of this...

Mark Thompson on the special edition of MIP on Sirius was really talking about this a lot on my way home.

29.  Another possibility for 'That one'? Old McCain forgot Barack's name?

My DH used to accompany me to a nursing home when I visited my grandmother (which was every day for me, and once a week for him).

We got to know people there and visited with people whose families rarely visited them. So we got to know how elderly slip up. Hub heard McCain say 'that one' and later mentioned that for a microsecond the name Barack Obama escaped Mccain's elderly brain. Either possibility -encroaching senility or ingrained racism- is ominous.

This isn't to say racism isn't there, we know it is. On a forum I co-admin the board owner is a med professor. Weeks ago he had posted about his observation of McCain. He said something about 'mini-strokes' called TIAs. I forget what it stands for but he noticed during the last debate that Mccain's left eye was blinking A LOT. This time it wasn't.

So, what's the possibility that for a second McCain couldn't remeber 'that one's' NAME?

30. Nah, not nearly as directly racial.
It certainly does add to the narrative of McCain as a bitter dude and undiplomatic, but it isn't necessarily racial.

if he actually momentarily forgot what Obama's name was so instead of referring to him as Senator Obama said "that one". x(

34. This shit coming from McCain has now convinced me that he
is a racist. He has sub-humanized Obama--a very articulate and decent guy. I disagree with a lot of Obama's positions on foreign policy and his links to Wall Street worry me as well, but I'm hoping that he will be able to disentangle himself from the latter's influence when he tries to fix this unholy mess.

35. You are very incorrect......
and you need to think about what you are writing.

He has NOT sub-humanized Obama, although he may have caused himself some damage.

You see, Barack Obama can not be "Made" anything other than what he is by anyone, and in particular by John McCain.

39. Yes he did sub-humanize him and that combined with the hate spewing
from McCain and Palin's campaign using "terrorist" in place of the N-word only adds to it. Palin's Dominionist background and that movements links to racists along with McCains links to racist and other hard right Naziesque orgs like the World Freedom Foundation puts them into the category of white supremacists for me.

Frenchie, with all due respect you need to read what I said more carefully. I never implied Obama was "Made" into anything. McCain, IMHO, has sub-humanized Obama in his mind as a part of his racist worldview. That should be obvious from the context.

36. It does not rise to the level of "macacca" but definitely proves he rude and insensitive and it is
excellent SNL material, along with the robotic pacing and the incessant "my friends."

Shit I am starting to feel a little sorry for him.

Never mind, the feeling has passed. We're good.
