Zogby: Kerry supporters lose confidence in him and joining undecided
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=858

As Republican delegates say goodbye to the glitter and fanfare of Madison Square Garden, self-identified investor voters say they now favor President Bush over John Kerry by an eleven point spread (49% vs. 38%) according to a Zogby/Wall $treet Week with FORTUNE poll conducted on August 30th through September 2nd.

In tonight’s post RNC Convention episode of PBS’s Wall $treet Week with FORTUNE, Zogby will be interviewed by Karen Gibbs, W$WwF co-anchor, where he will announce that President Bush now has the advantage of a double-digit lead among self-identified Investor Class voters. Of those voters who identify themselves as owning stock, 54% say they would vote for Bush compared to 34% for Kerry’s 20 point difference.

In analyzing the poll data, Zogby will probe the “make or break” role of two key groups, the Investor Class, and the Undecideds, both of whom are increasing in numbers and potential impact as Campaign 2004 speeds toward election day.

Both the Investor Class and the Undecideds may prove to be battleground constituencies for Kerry. The poll indicated that Kerry’s support fell as the number of undecided voters rose, suggesting that by some of the Senators supporters may have lost confidence in him and joined the ranks of the undecided.

Zogby International conducted interviews of 1,001 likely voters chosen at random nationwide. Of these likely voters, 307 described themselves as “members of the investor class” All calls were made from Zogby International headquarters in Utica, N.Y., from August 30th through September 2nd. The margin of error is +/- 3.2 percentage points. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, and gender to more accurately reflect the voting population. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups. Numbers have been rounded to the nearest percent and might not total 100.

(I THOUGHT ZOGBY WAS ON OUR SIDE!)

2. Bush expressed/betrayed his own lack of confidence in the WOT
Bush isn't sure he can win the war on terror.
They are not paying attention.

3. Yunh-huh!
and it was a "perfect" convention too....and crazy old Mr. Miller doesn't speak for the GOP...and George is the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with, until he lapsed back into being a mean-spirited drunk....

Mission Accomplished!

4. Isn't this "investor class" "grouping" a RW meme?
It's a really hazy term. A guy working at McDonalds with $100 in an IRA and a multibillionaire are both in the "Investor Class". Just seems goofy to me - might as well come with with "People Who Like Cheese" class.

8. Yes it is. Anyone with an IRA or a 401K is part of the 'Investor Class"
I don't think anyone knows what it means.

13. Investor class really is an economic class
it is generally defined as people who's primary source of income comes from investments, and not from working. E.g. the rich, some of the elderly with large portfolios, people who live off of rental properties, etc....

15. I think you hit the nail right on the head
"Investor class"? Just another right wing talking point.

The RW has always wanted to break up any real class affiliation in this country. Democrats represent the working class and the middle class. The Repukes represent the upper classes and they know it, so they have to convince working class and middle class people that the Repukes represent them too.

One way has been RW talking points like: "Liberals are elitists, conservatives are regular guys." It's nonsense and even the RW doesn't believe their own crap but they repeat it a lot.

Another way is to invent new "classes" whose existence serves the right wing. So now we have the "investor class", trying to convince somebody working at 7-11 or McDonalds who has a small 401k that they are in the same class as Dick Cheney and Donald Trump. Another one I've heard: "ownership class". That one divides the middle/working classes along the lines of who owns real property, and who doesn't. Another one: promoting evangelical "born again" Christianity as a "class" unto itself. Another one: race-based rather than class-based consciousness, the intent of which is to make sure whites of any class are reliable Repuke voters.

The sooner people realize that the only interests the RW represents are the super-rich, snobby, exclusive-neighborhood, extended pinky finger, preppy private school, restricted membership country club, Hummer-and-Rolls Royce set, the sooner the RW's whole house of cards is going to come crashing down around them.

5. This is still good
These people are not switching to Bush...After a straight month of almost unanswered bashing, Bush still can't get above the 50% mark. This is still Kerry's to win...there is nothing more that Bush can do other than what he is doing. He needs to drive down turnout, which is what all thie negative stuff is aimed at.

7. Exactly
And judging by that speech Kerry gave last night, he knows what he has to do. Can't wait to see the new ads...only wish he was airing them here in Virginia.

9. In Ohio, the blitz has started.
Between 5:00 AM and 6:00 am, I saw the special heartland commercials from Kerry run no less than 13 times.

It is a good commercial, and when followed up with the Move On add, you get double the exposure.

17. Investor Class == Shrub's biggest tax cut recipients
Well no shit sherlock, of COURSE they're going to be "confident" about Dubya! Why not? He already looted the treasury so they could afford another luxury yacht. He'll do the same thing next year to "stimulate" the economy, again. Another "trickle down" ought to take care of it.

However, please don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.
