I think the Kerry's campaign strategy is right on the money.

They could have wasted money and ammo responding to everything that happened in August and the race would still be at about this same point.

Instead they have:

1.Plenty of money,
2. A race where they are ahead, or at worst dead even
3. An overconfident opponent, who will get sloppy AND thinks he wont have to resort to a desperate October surprise.
4. An opponent who has taken his best shot. It's too late for Bush to make his campaign about anything else.

2. I like your number 4
The repub convention was about terror, terror, terror. Job and retail reports today are not good. The Repubs can now be accused of not paying attention to the concerns of most people in this country and trying to scare their way into the White House...

8. Yep, Kerry is playing "Rope a Dope"
He is giving them the rope to hang themselves with. Bush* is going to make this all about 9/11, fear, and war. Kerry is going to let them, and them demolish their stated reason for existing.

3. People criticize Kerry for not fighting back
but that was at a time when the GOP meme was "angry Democrats". Kerry trumped their card and has now taken the offensive. Turned the boat into the shore, with guns blazing.

4. I think #3 is wishful thinking....
I just can't think that they would "pull any punches"....because we know these guys....if they have some convoluted dirt, they'll use it. That is just the inherent animal we're dealing with.

They simply don't worry about any fratricide with the crap that they pull.

Christ.... to get what they want (more power for the affluent) they act like a freekin wrecking crew..... they've pummeled the economy, beat the schit out of our military, created another 18,000 new terrorist recruits throught the Iraq war, dropped the ball on hunting down the total Al Qaeda gang (which is now rebuilding). It's like the proverbial bull in a china shop.

If they had simply not shown up over the last 4 years we'd be infinitely better off...but as you can see, no matter what they touch....it turns to schit.

So to believe that they would "hold back" any surprises is probably not logical considering who we're dealing with.

7. I agree they are amoral, but they are smart.
They know anything huge, like a sudden Osama capture, could actually blow back on them.

Also, Rove is tremendously arrogant. He wants to show everybody he can win this thing without an "October surprise."

9. Well Said wadestock
You hit the nail on the head.

Smirk may have gained some votes last night but as the smoke disperses from the 4 day Hate Fest voters will again refocus on the unprecedented disasters Smirk has wreaked on America and the world. This race ain't over by a long shot.

5. Couldn't agree more
I doubted him in Iowa and look what he did. And the public can't remember anything over two months ago.

6. I tend to agree.
It seems to me the strategy is sound. But it is time to hit the warpath now that the repug hatefest is over. The main weapon Kerry has is the truth. We need to get the truth to as many people as possible because the whore media is the enemy. My biggest concern is the pro-Bush media.
