They've hijacked the flag and the cross
The RNC had as a backdrop, the biggest flag known to man. They gave new meaning to the term flag wavers. This was topped only by their podium, which looked a little weird to me until The Daily Show exposed it for what it was: a pulpit. Anybody else see the not-so-subtle cross on the podium? :puke:

1. I loved the overhead flag at our convention. Theirs is garish. And
don't you think they feel oh-so-sneaky-clever and satisfied getting the crucifix on stage?

Who would Jesus vote for?

12. playing with fire
the bush coward team is playing with fire, they pretend to be Christians, yet constantly do UN Christian like things, they are hiding the bush Coward behind his faith in GOD and many buy into it, but there are times when these false prophet fall from grace and if the democrats manage to expose the bush coward for the liar he is , using faith as a political tool rather than a guiding light, the Christians will turn on him fast - remember Jim Baker and what happened to him? Many Christians truly believe and they are quite aware of Christs warnings that many will say they know him but in reality are not Christians. This all plays into the "character" issue the right wing uses, just as they did in 2000- democrats must smoke the bush coward out from hiding behind this so called faith in Christ - heck the guy didn't even become invalided until after he lost his first election to an Evangelical. The bush coward is a is a "dress up" person, he likes to dress up and pretend to be something he is not.

Just as there is a swift boat liar 527 to challenge Kerry's character, perhaps there needs to be a 527 to challenge the bush claims that he has faith in Christ while he continues to do things that Christ would never do - and challenge why he only became an Evangelic AFTER he lost an election to an EVANGELIC. The bush team relies on this for his "Character" issue, it is fair game to be attacked and questioned just as much as they claim it is fair to question Kerry on his military record.

3. Earlier pictures show an even more prominent cross...
... on the gavel stand.

Code words and covert symbols. Motivate the fundies across the land. Remind everyone that we're on a Crusade, even if Bush can't say it.

Creeping fascism is a fashion statement these days.... *sigh*

5. Another "fashion statement": Their Sunday-go-to-meetin' clothes
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 01:37 AM by linazelle
It's like they dressed up real nice for the convention in stark contrast to the past four years. Would somebody please tell them you can't portray one image for four years--one of casual disregard IMHO--and then change suddenly like no one knows any better. We know who you are Bush.

Laura then:

4. another thing
I have not seen any of the rethug lovefest Xcept what has been shown on Democracy Now! and The Daily Show. The podium/pulpit cross image Jon mentioned 2night was totally off the charts. Nothing subtle about religious fanatics is there? When they re-played Wednesday's show immediately after 2night's entry, I noticed how pickles was in front of a back drop that heavily represented a STAINED GLASS WINDOW!!!!! All broken pieces of pink, white and red shards behind her, so humbly represented in her 'Madonna in Blue' suit. We now have the holy family. god speaks 2 and thru them.

Praise the lord!!!!

15. What do you mean 'your' symbols
Flags and crosses are global symbols. The significance is not in the object but in the belief that those who invoke those symbols can generate.

If you believe in the flag and the cross (and I never venerate any innanimate object, because they are just THINGS), then no-one can ever appropriate the symbol.

If you are a rational, clear thinking person you should be able to tell the difference between what is symbolic and what is real. Symbols have their place in the mind of the nationalistic and the dogmatic. Thinking people have grown up from needing mere things to fret over.

18. Since you aren't an American, I guess you can't
understand when the symbols of your patriotism are co-opted by a gang of unelected criminals who are using them for their own corrupt purposes. If you are a Christian, how would you feel about a gang of criminals, you know racists, hold-up guys, burglars co-opting the cross and incorporating it into a swastika as a symbol of their church? Well buddy it has already happened. Welcome to the Church of the Aryan Nations operating out of Hayden, Idaho. So excuse me if I resent a bunch of goosestepping fascists waving my flag around, a symbol of democracy, and the oppposite of what they stand for.

9. They can have the cross as far as I'm concerned.
If Christians are dumb enough to think that simply SAYING you're Christian makes you Christian, then they are beyond hope.

As for the flag - it's ALL of ours.

16. Many religious people actually buy Bush's christian act--I really believe
that those who support bush because of religion are not politically inclined and therefore are oblivious to his lies. By nature, the very religious overlook others' faults which makes it all the better for him.
