Use of S.S. #'s: "ACORN" Investigation Tactics & Federal Law Violations:
Missouri officials suspect fake voter registration:
"We have identified about 100 duplicates, and probably 280 addresses that don't exist, people who have driver's license numbers that won't verify or Social Security numbers that won't verify. Some have no address at all."

Report: Voter purges in 6 states may violate law:
The newspaper said it identified apparent problems in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Nevada and North Carolina. It says some states are improperly using Social Security data to verify new voters' registration applications, and others may have broken rules that govern removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election.

1. I bet this is the "October Surprise" that the McCain camp has been hinting
It's not much to really concern ourselves too much with, because if they want to go down the road of voter and election fraud, they have a nice long track record. They essentially wrote the book on how to undermine the peoples right to vote.

3. True. I still think that the massive purges the GOP have masterminded, it will get play
Maybe I'm wrong, but once they open this can of worms, they'll be no stopping the backlash. There will be plenty of Obama staff and spokespeople that can quickly frame this issue and diffuse its impact on the campaign.

4. All right, you know what, I'm going to call bullshit on this.
I've registered lots of folks in some of Philly's poorest neighborhoods. I don't know the exact situation of the people I've registered, but I suspect that some may have been technically "homeless" and I know that I've registered a few that were drunk. Should I not have registered these people? Do they not deserve the right to vote? If not, why? With most of these folks, you've got one chance to register them, so when they say "yes", you jump. When I register people, I explain the rules surrounding who may register and who may not. After that, it is their responsibility to put accurate information on the form. Many people don't exactly accurately remember their social security numbers. If you've got no job, no paycheck and no taxes to file, when do you use it?

Now, one area where I can easily see ACORN getting into to trouble is because (at least in Philly) they pay people to register voters. And, at least here, they pay per the registration. So there's clearly incentive to if not completely fudge registrations, to fill-in-the-gaps of half-completed registrations.

Long story short, I for one hesitate to cast my judgement on ACORN for this.

14. No thanks necessary. It's a rush to get people registered.
The days (and days, lol) I spent registering voters were, without a doubt, some of the most rewarding days of my life.

6. This is good to hear. I'll remember it in case I have to repeat it to anyone who brings this up.
Keep up the good work!

tigated.

I am really tired to the max of having my Democratic bona fides---when I go back to knocking on doors for Jimmy Carter and working polling-sites ever after--- and my veracity questioned here (yesterday a DU'er called me a liar over what I wrote about Dana Milbanks, after I even hugged the latter).

8. Not calling bullshit on your post...
Calling bullshit on their so-called "evidence" that ACORN is guilty of wrong-doing. I wanted to point out that the situations listed in your post could be easily be due to simple mistakes and not evidence of some conspiracy.

9. Hell, the legibility and spelling on some of these registration cards are
beyond believability. A recent card I looked over had the registrant's name spelled differently in three locations. Indistinguishable letters and numbers are nightmarish from these legitimate, but illiterate folks.

You hate to discount these cards, but I can see where Clerks have to do so. The best remedy is for the volunteers registering people to closely observe the registrant and review the card with them.

12. If you're a homeless U.S. citizen, you're a citizen and have the right to vote.
Registering homeless people to vote should not only be tolerated, but encouraged.

I've registered people to vote myself this year in a working class neighborhood. What did I do? I helped people fill out the forms, understand the eligibility requirements, and made sure that if they're eligible, they'll get to vote this year. I am not an election cop, and I'm not the citizenship police. If I asked someone if he or she's a citizen and he or she says yes, I took them at their word. I didn't card them. I don't care about their skin color, ethnicity or primary language. I just helped them vote.

13. Exactly.
It's our job to walk them through the process and make sure they're informed about registering and voting.

It's not our job to demand they verify every piece of information they're putting on the form. We don't even have the right, let alone the responsibility, to do so.

This is so frustrating. At, at the core, is the belief that poor people shouldn't vote and that just sickens me.

PUKE.

Go fight ELECTION FRAUD you asshats. That has been PROVEN and it is a much larger problem than a few voter irregularities like not living at the address on your drivers license (oh noes!111! you must be a cheater!111!!!! or else you are a victim of this economy and you move a lot....)

11. This is nothing more than a bullshit tactic to disenfranchise thousands of voters
They've already tried purging voters with criminal records, now they're using this as an excuse. Pathetic.
