Philly columnist urges Flyers fans to turn their back on Palin
"Not many Philadelphians even know about Ed Snider's politics...a devoted acolyte of the late conservative icon Ayn Rand ...

Snider is a leading donor to the group Freedom's Watch, which is spending millions (here's the repulsive part I mentioned up top) promoting its lethal policies in the Middle East and right-wing candidates like Sarah Palin and John McCain who support that agenda...

Now, he's making a huge in-kind donation to the McCain-Palin campaign in the arena that we taxpayers kicked in for, giving her a chance to skate her stuff in from of 19,500 mostly upscale male hockey fans from the swing suburbs outside Philly. It will be a warm and fuzzy "hockey mom" event that will make people forget about her ugly and hate-filled rallies of the last week, where she charged that the Democratic candidate for president "pals around with terrorists" as a lynch-mob of an audience hooted and yelled out things like "kill him." (Odd as it sounds, hockey fans are more polite than Palin fans.)

Flyers fans should be outraged -- even conservative ones, because this misuse of a hockey game for his political agenda is flat out wrong. I don't think that Philadelphia fans should boo -- we're all getting a little tired of that stereotype, eh -- or act as rude as the people at Palin's rallies, but I do think that anyone who's as offended by this as I am should stand up Saturday night and turn their back on Sarah Palin, and especially turn their back on Ed Snider."

1. Disgusting - Ed Snider's politics
This is so unfair to the hockey fans. They paid good money for their tickets. It's not like they have a choice, here. They're being forced to watch/participate in this political charade.

Why is she in Philly so much?

12. Philly's got nothing on Detroit baby!
We'll show you who the worst fans are, when Palin goes to the Joe! It will be like Ron Artest visiting the Palace all over again, only 10 times worse.

P.S. Don't worry, I don't take this claim seriously. I'm sure the flyers fans will do more than turn their backs on Palin.

16. I'm sorry, Philly fans have been voted the worse fans - we have our own Court Room for
bad eagles fans - equiped with a judge.

3. No. Let her experience what the Broad Street Bully mob is like when they are drunk.
And maybe she will think twice about shit-stirring.

They would best cancel this nonsense... In fact, people should contact the city's http://www.phila.gov/humanrelations/">Commission on Human Relations to push to halt it if they won't cancel, and then replace the program with a final tribute to Kate Smith and the Spectrum (for those unable to go to that Flyers-Wings final game at the Spectrum this past weekend).

4. Snider's politics never were an issue here...
but they are now.

Many progressives I know are really pissed at him...it may translate a little, albeit not much, at the box office or concession stands, but his skating-free days are over here.

6. Snyder's giving away free lipstick
to the "hockey moms" that attend. I hope the fans throw those lipsticks on the ice.

7. No way. Is that true?
Those are SO going to get tossed.

I can't believe they're setting themselves up like this.

Shit, I might have to get tickets just to watch!

8. yes "pucker peach" lipstick
"Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started," Snider said in a team statement Wednesday. "We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey."

The team will award all hockey moms entered into the contest with a free "puck-er peach" lipstick and four tickets to a hockey game of the Flyers' minor league affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. The winner will appear on the ice with Palin for opening faceoff."

10. Cheap bastard
he's giving away Phantoms tickets, not Flyers tickets. Tix to an AHL game go for about $15, as opposed to $30-$40 for a comparable NHL seat.

11. Hockey fans and hockey moms are not
natural allies. They are cut from different cloth -- sort of like fans of the theater and stage mothers. Not the same animal at all. Thinking that hockey fans will resonate with Wanda from Wasilla is a mistake.

was a bigger one.

15. I'd be real careful about booing Philadelphia hockey fans
ol' Fast Eddie Snider is a big enough prick he might revoke your season tickets or expelled you from the game if you protest too much. One question? Does he have to give equal time to Obama since this will be nothing but a campaign ad?
